You are strongly recommended to take up our Personal Holiday Insurance, if you decide not to purchase this insurance you must take out alternative Personal Travel Insurance that provides equivalent or better cover to the policy we offer. You must also give details of your alternative policy in writing. British citizens can apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) online at www.dh.gov.uk/travellers or by post or phone. This grants the right to medical treatment under EU social security arrangements and replaces the old E111 form. You may have to pay for the treatment locally and then claim for it on your return home. Not all medical expenses are covered and treatment can be expensive. In addition, unlike our insurance, the EHIC does not cover repatriation in the event of serious illness or accident, and it may not cover your medical or hospital expenses in the event of a road accident.
British citizens need a full British passport valid for the whole of the holiday period. Generally, you should ensure that your passport does not expire within 6 months of the end of your holiday. A 10-year passport can take up to one month or more to obtain, so ensure you apply early. For the most up-to-date information on passport application procedures and costs, please refer to www.ukpa.gov.uk.
