Tourist board gradings

All boats must meet our own minimum standards to be included in the Hoseasons brochure. However, where individual boats have been graded by Visit England, the star rating has been included for extra information.

Each boat is assessed for its quality and standards on the basis of its standard number of fixed (permanent) berths.
The grading therefore applies at this level, and not when the maximum permitted number of berths are in use.

All of the boats featured on our website state the standard and maximum berths available. Not all boatyards have taken part in the scheme so the lack of a star does not imply any lesser standard. Only boats in England and Wales are eligible for Visit England grading.
The range of quality standards and facilities provided are indicated by a one to five star system.

Visit England Excellent to exceptional overall quality. Highest levels of decor, fixtures and fittings.
Highest standards of management efficiency and guest care.

Visit England Very good to excellent overall quality. Higher comfort levels and attention to detail throughout.

Visit England Good to very good overall quality supported by good standards of decor, furnishings and fittings.

Visit England Quite good to good overall level of quality and customer care.

Visit England Acceptable level of quality. Clean boat, with adequate provision of furnishings and fittings.

Visit England applied For some boats the Visit England grading has been applied for, but was not available at the time of publication. In this case the wording 'Visit England Applied' will be shown in the boat entry.
