And from The White House, a footpath walk over the fields leads to the sand dunes and sea at Burnham Overy Staithe where visitors can catch the ferry out to Scolt Head Island, a renowned bird and seal sanctuary. A short drive away, Holkham Hall, a magnificent Palladian mansion surrounded by glorious grounds, is well worth a visit and the beautiful nearby beach, its wide sweeping sands backed by pine woods, is as perfect for lazy summer days as brisk winter walks. The Queen's estate at Sandringham, RSPB Tichwell, family fun at the seaside resort of Hunstanton, and the harbour and seafood stalls at Wells-next-the-Sea are all within an easy drive. Great days out in the Norfolk Broads and in the medieval cathedral city of Norwich are also easily accessible, and Fakenham, with its thriving weekly market and racecourse, is 12 miles.
