Orkney gets a huge funding boost

Orkney is to benefit from a mammoth £300,000 funding injection to help it promote its natural heritage to the rest of the world – it aims to establish itself as a worldwide tourist destination. This is Orkney's moment to shine.

The team behind the Enjoy Wild Orkney project wants to put Orkney on the map by celebrating its picturesque beauty and abundance of wildlife. A three-year initiative, it came about after the powers that be realised Orkney's natural heritage was not as well promoted as it should be. Given that it is a big feature of Orkney, it has come as a bit of a surprise.

It doesn't matter when these songs were made or when they rocked whatever generation, they're all bona fide summer hits that will have you sparking up the BBQ, slipping into your summer shorts and beachwear, topping up on that sun lotion, clanking those beers and enjoying good times with friends and family.

Take pleasure from the first in a series of blogs celebrating the great summer tune.

California Girls, The Beach Boys

It might have been their ninth studio album but the Beach Boys were as creative as they had ever been. That album, aptly titled Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!!), features this enduring classic, perhaps one of their all-time compositions.

Take a Norfolk Broads boating holiday to see wild birds

Brits looking to see wildlife may want to take a boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads, as it will give them plenty of time to explore the region.

Yolanda Copes-Stepney, spokeswoman for VisitEngland, which is the official website for tourism in the UK, recommended the Norfolk Broads.

She said: "If you're looking for birds, head for the reed-fringed Hickling Broads, or if you're feeling brave paddle to Malthouse Broad – it's said to be haunted by a 12th-century monk who appears in the early mornings."

This suggests that there is plenty for Brits to do while on a boat holiday in the area.
