Been on a number of UK boating holidays in different areas. The thing that set this holiday apart was the boatyard. It was a much smaller yard than we have been to before and was very friendly and personal. The guy that dealt with us couldn't have been much friendlier and helpful. Had a really good week. It was a lot more laid back and quieter than other areas/waterways we have been to - ideal :)

We had a great time on Sunquest cruising the Great Ouse. The family loved it and all enjoyed seeing the countryside at a slow pace and from a new perspective. Everyone wants to go again. What better recommendation can there be.

It was a lovely holiday. The dining table was the wrong size and shape to fit us all round which made meal times difficult but apart from that it was a lovely boat with a good boat yard running things. We had a couple of technical issues but they came out in half an hour. All in all a pleasurable trip. We would use them again, thanks.

Firstly our thoughts on what previous reviewers have said. We agree that there is only limited headroom aboard but if you're under 6' you will be able to stand upright here and there. You'll have to be careful though, in fact if you are over 5'8” we can guarantee that you will bump your head at some stage! However, if you are under 5'8” you will not be able to see the river when seated at the steering wheel without the aid of a cushion, so it's all about compromise. Thankfully it is NOT the case that toilet waste goes into the river. These are elderly boats and it shows. However, Sunquest 1 handles well and, with one or two reservations, it's comfortable and well equipped. It's decent value for money. We've had a lot of experience with sliding canopies and we knew that almost certainly the cockpit/lounge area would be draughty. We took three old bath towels from home with us and laid them across the boat where the fabric at the rear of the sliding canopy meets the solid roof. This sealed up the expected large gaps and prevented the cold wind penetrating (and there was a lot of it during our colder than average week). Probably the same applies to all of the Sunquest boats. Something else you should consider taking from home is a three metre length of rope. If you tie one end of this to the rear handle you'll find it much easier to close the canopy because one of your crew can pull on that while someone else pulls and pushes on the front handle. Another reviewer said that three people are needed to get through the locks. Every unmanned lock we came to between Ely and St Neots could be operated and navigated by just one person but it is laborious, a bit 'technical' and there are dangers. There were two of us and it is a lot easier and safer. Granted a third person would make it a little easier but really their time could be better spent making the tea! Yes, Sunquest could sleep 6 in theory but it must be quite a headache in such a small space. OK for 4 we reckon, and truly spacious, and therefore relaxing, for a just one couple. Sunquest 1 was clean when handed over to us, except for one drawer in the forward cabin that we didn't think of using until later in the week, when we discovered that it clearly hadn't been cleaned for a considerable time. Chris and Nigel at Bridge Boats were friendly and helpful and without hesitation supplied one or two extra bits of gear to make the boat easier to handle by just two people. The wildlife highlight of our trip were four nightingales singing at Paxton Pits and waking up one morning to their song. We also had a red kite wheeling repeatedly over the river and spotted a seal in the water near Earith. If you don't know Ely, do try to factor in time to explore. It's one of the most fascinating cities we have visited.

I stayed on the Sunquest with my husband, 14 year old son and elderly parents for the bank holiday weekend and overall the experience was pleasant. The Bridge Boat Yard at Ely was easy to find and the staff there were really helpful and pleasant. For me the disappointment was with the boat. The pictures and layout look bigger than what the boat actually is. To access and exit the boat you have to go through the back bedroom. The galley kitchen is very small and hard to work in when people need to get past you. The lounge/dining area is very compact. When we ate we had to put up the table and then you can't get around it. Once the table is collapsed there's no-where to store the table. There's steps from the galley up into the lounge area then steps down into the rear front bedroom. Anyone with mobility problems will struggle. When driving the boat, any passengers have to stand up to look out the front of the boat. Because the boat is very old basic comforts are compromised i.e. the curtains are thin so daylight streams in in the mornings. Couldn't get the TV to work in the evenings. No DVD player. Bathroom very small and when you sit on the toilets the flush handle is so close to the toilet it hurts the side of your leg. We took the Ely to Cambridge route but no-where along the way could you aft park (mooring end on) so I really struggled to get the dog and my elderly mum off and on. I've been on a long boat before and I much prefer this layout. Sorry to rant but I'd rather be honest.

Our third holiday from Bridge Boatyard, the guys there are great. Really helpful. The boats are a bit tired, but for the price was a good value holiday. Lovely location.

Needs more information on how to work locks. They were not straightforward and the instructions at the locks are not great either.

It would have been very helpful to have some details of possible cruising routes before arriving to collect the boat.

Very old boat with stoneage facilities. Sliding roof very difficult to move This boat just doesn't compare favourably with those hired over the last two years on the Broads. The river Great Ouse is a great cruising area crying out for quality boats for hire.

it was an old boat, we booked later than we usually do so the availablity was limited, would not have that type of boat again we are tall family who needed the canopy open to be comfortable - no fun in the rain
