There are some lovely towns to discover on Deeside, from Balmoral, favourite summer haunt of the Royal Family, to Ballater, Aboyne and Braemar, scene of the famous highland gathering.

One of our Aberdeenshire cottage holidays is also the perfect excuse to discover the granite city of Aberdeen, now the oil capital of Europe. Provost Skene’s House, with its variety of period style rooms, is one of the highlights of the city, as are the many parks and gardens that bring colour to contrast with the grey stone of the buildings here. And for truly magnificent views, head to the Cairngorms National Park, the highest landmass in Britain, where, depending on the weather you can enjoy ski-ing, snowboarding, mountain biking, hillwalking and much else.
