Covering much of central Kent and parts of East Sussex, the High Weald offers woodlands, rolling hills and scenic ravines, known as gills. For nature lovers, there’s Ashdown Forest, a large area of open access woods and heathland, while for long distance walkers there’s the High Weald Landscape Trail that takes in some of the area’s finest sights. There’s a wide choice of places to visit here too, from Hever Castle, once home to Anne Boleyn, to the beautiful gardens of Great Dixter, Batemans and Sissinghurst. The handsome Georgian spa town of Tunbridge Wells offers a wealth of shopping and eating opportunities, while on the coast the charming town of Rye has changed little over the years and today attracts large numbers of collectors to its many antique shops.
