Extending for 30 miles into the Irish Sea, the Lleyn Peninsula is one of the prettiest and most unspoilt parts of Wales. It is famous not just for its scenery but also for its preservation of Welsh culture and the Welsh language. Its special character has made it a favourite destination for holidaymakers in search of tradition as well as peace and tranquillity. There are attractive beaches here, among them Pwllheli, Criccieth and Abersoch, as well as large areas of untamed beauty. A popular destination is Plas-yn-Rhiw, a historic manor house with its very attractive gardens, while just to the south of the peninsula is Portmeirion, the Italianate fantasy village famous both for its pottery and as the location for cult TV series “The Prisoner”.
