• About Regent House - Biscay

These fabulous apartments, with stunning views across the Exe estuary (Portland has limited views), were once the home of Captain George Peacock who constructed the Panama canal and they provide the ideal base for a really relaxing holiday. Easily accessible by road, rail and water, they sit opposite a small railway station and ferry port to Exmouth’s two miles of golden sands and traditional resort facilities. The fine beach and nature reserve at Dawlish Warren are 2 miles whilst sightseeing and shopping in the cathedral city of Exeter are 7 miles. The surrounding countryside is particularly good for walking and cycling – nearby Haldon Forest is criss-crossed with trails and there is even a cycle track to Exeter from Regent House itself, Exe trail cycleway – and the Exe estuary is great for sailing, windsurfing and all manner of water sports, with tuition for all levels of ability. Powderham Castle is within walking distance, visit the castle, farm shop and check out the events held there including classic car rally, food fayres and concerts. Golf courses are also close by. Floating restaurant at Exmouth is well worth a visit, booking advisable. Guided bird watching cruises are available, river cruises run all year and Jurassic Coast cruises in summer. Some of Devon’s famed resorts – Budleigh Salterton, Seaton and Sidmouth as well as the ‘English Riviera’ resorts of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham – and Dartmoor National Park’s rugged beauty are a little further afield. Shops and a pub serving food are within a 5-minute stroll.

Well equipped modern apartment with a great view, excellent base to discover this part of devon, nearest beach about 2 1/2 miles at dawlish warren. A lot of steps to climb to entrance which might be a problem for some but overall excellent.

Lovely apartment, everything you could need was provided. The bed was so comfortable I twice came round in the morning thinking I was in my own bed. Great bathroom and the shower was amazing. Even the steps up to the front door was a good workout can't praise the accommodation highly enough.

The apartment is lovely inside. Comfortable, tasteful, spacious and clean with good views and in a good location with parking. The owners are pleasant and helpful and there are good places to visit in the area. Railway and ferry right opposite too. What's not to like?? The steps! It's not the number it's the fact that they are grotty (covered in cobwebs) open-tread outside steps and narrow too, so not good for carrying all your luggage and shopping especially in bad weather. Although I clicked that I would stay again, personally I would think twice (unless the interior staircase was opened up), others may be less bothered by it.
