We had a fantastic holiday here for the second year running in this lovely, homely cottage.

The cottage is in a beautiful spot and was ideal for us to explore an area of The Lakes we'd not previously been to. It was very comfortable and warm, for although the weather was amazing, it was still cool in the evenings. Gilbert and May were welcoming and helpful hosts. Gilbert took me to a farm to buy milk, after we arrived, and refused to accept any money. He also brought in a TV engineer to see why we couldn't get the BBC. Apparently a transmitter was down! One negative comment. When we are in a self catering cottage, we like to cook in the evenings. The oven was so caked with old fat, that when I turned it on it made the whole cottage smell. That apart, and it was a momentary issue; the top oven/ hadn't been used so we could use that, we would rent the cottage again should we re-wend our way to that area.

We had a great week with fine weather and the cottage was all that we could have hoped for although the TV reception seemed strange at times but this was a minor point. The owner was kind and welcoming and even left us a box of chocolates.

This is a lovely cottage, which has been refurbished with great care and attention. It has all the equipment you could need for a family holiday - especially if you also fancy a break from the digital world. The cottage is very well heated, so would work equally well out of season. The owners are welcoming but leave you space to enjoy the property. It gave us an opportunity to explore a less well known part of the Lakes. Broughton in Furness is a great little town close by with a fantastic choice of products in the small local shops, and we met only two runners on a 7 mile walk from Seathwaite in the Duddon Valley on a sunny day in Easter week. Tall guests might want to watch their heads, old cottages have low beams! And our boys at 10 and 8 were fine in a bedroom on the ground floor away from the double bedroom on the first. Highly recommended.
