The cottage was a delight and the garden was truly lovely. The only real downside for us was the lack of an upstairs loo which was a bit of a nuisance at night as the stairs are fairly steep. On the plus side there was a nice utility room with both a washing machine and a tumble dryer. All told a peaceful, restful stay which was exactly what we were looking for. It should be noted however that the nearest town is a good three or four miles away!

The warm welcome from the friendly chatty and helpful owner marked the start of an enjoyable and comfortable stay in this stunning-looking old character cottage. Having its own parking space right next to it was also so useful as regards unpacking, packing and wanting to be off the road. And all mod.cons. in a thoughtfully equipped self-contained utility room. Please note that the owner's directions need to be updated - "The Lamb Inn" is now "The Three Daggers"; also, the sat.nav. (using the postcode in the owner's directions) incorrectly took us to "Lower Road, Bratton" and not "Lower Road, Edington" and apparently we're not the only ones that has happened to, so I suggest that a warning in the directions would save people about half an hour being lost.

Useful location for dog and self to stay, to visit with local friends and walk along the Westbury White Horse escarpment. Overall though, cottage felt a bit 'tired'; could do with a bit of a 'spruce up'. Likes: Warm, friendly welcome from owner who lives opposite Owner's kindness in letting my friends who visited park in her driveway Good, dog-secure garden Quiet, peaceful ambience, both inside and in garden ( most of day) Clean throughout on arrival Comfortable double bed in main bedroom Feeling safe and secure after dark as sole occupier, with dog! Specific issues to be considered: Only a small basket of kindling for log burner on arrival so had to buy logs from owner + go out and buy more next morning Sitting room electric storage heater not adequate on its own for dealing with evening drop of outside temperature, t'was February! Cottage kitted out at basic level Being told on arrival by owner that shower "wasn't really adequate". P (I noted from visitors book that this matter had been commented on before but nothing seems to have been done to rectify situation) Wifi only accessible on iPad when standing by kitchen window, being 'bounced over' from owner's wifi as cottage itself has no independent wifi access; mobile phone reception iffy too Only one parking space on cottage property which is difficult to get into and out of unless you reverse in having to straddle across Lower Road, tight space with larger car Lower Road is an unpavmented, narrow lane and traffic 'rat run', especially at certain times of day (7-9am / 5-6pm). Consequently, this made walking dog from cottage to nearby fields a tense experience, especially as lorries and buses use the route
