• About Haven Cottage

Cut off from the mainland twice a day by the incoming tide, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne allows visitors to experience complete tranquillity and timelessness, and these Grade II listed fishermen’s cottages are ideally placed to enjoy this unique location. There is a book library in both properties with information about the history of the local area, and there are also a selection of unique postcards that each tell a story and show how the island has changed throughout the years. The cottages offer contemporary comfort yet retain their original charm and character, and are within walking distance of the harbour and long sandy beaches. Both properties are designed for couples, but they also offer an additional stowaway Z bed for one additional friend or child. The island, a fine walking and bird watching destination, is dominated by 16th century Lindisfarne Castle, standing dramatically on a rocky outcrop – the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, the 7th century seat of Christian learning, are close by. Across the causeway, Northumberland’s many delights; Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses for boat trips to the Farne Islands’ bird and seal colonies, and Alnwick Castle and Gardens, all of which are within easy driving distance. Though each property is completely self contained, a lockable interconnecting door allows both cottages to be booked by a single family or group (maximum sleeps 4+2). Local carry-out meals available. Shop 200 yards, pubs serving food 500 yards.
Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. Shower room with toilet. First floor: 1 double bedroom. Z-bed available.

Both properties: Elec, elec heaters and bed linen inc. Freeview TV/DVD. CD. Book library. Elec cooker. M/wave. D/washer. Freezer. Wi-fi. Shared garden with decking and furniture. Shared BBQ. Parking. No smoking.

We loved the island but the cottage is even smaller than it looked in the photos and is only built for the short of leg with very low ceilings. It could of done with a clean and the knives sharpened but had big thick walls that kept it nice and warm once we had figured out the heating. There is a nice seating area outside that is sheltered quite a bit from the wind. We enjoyed the walks around the island with great views and amazing wildlife.

We had a lovely holiday in the little cottage. It was well equipped and cosy. he bedroom was a bit chilly, but perhaps the cold weather didn't help! We didn't order the hot tub as we were sharing the garden with people tat we hadn't previously met. We would like to warn future renters of the horror of the piri-piri burrs in the nature reserves. it took hous to remove them from our dogs. Other wise, really pleased with our stay.

The cottage was exactly what we expected, warm and cosy ..and very quiet ..once the tide had come in ..ideal for relaxing and chilling out .. ps only thing missing was a log fire ..but otherwise it was just what we wanted

The cottage was dirty, unloved & worn. The bed was very uncomfortable. We have stayed in dozens of cottages & this was a real disappointment. No welcome pack. Too expensive.

Lovely cosy cottage in the village close to the Abbey. Well equipped and clean. We had a wonderful holiday on a magical island. Only problem was getting dinner on the first night because the pubs were fully booked and the food available in the shop is limited. A bit more advanced planning next time!

I booked Haven Cottage as a last minute booking before I had read any of the reviews. Delighted to say our experience was entirely positive and I would love to stay there again. The location on St Cuthberts Square is absolutely superb and we were able to park right outside.

The cottage would be a lovely place if it was a lot more cleaner. It's a shame because it's in a great location.
