• About Haven Cottage

Cut off from the mainland twice a day by the incoming tide, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne allows visitors to experience complete tranquillity and timelessness, and these Grade II listed fishermen’s cottages are ideally placed to enjoy this unique location. There is a book library in both properties with information about the history of the local area, and there are also a selection of unique postcards that each tell a story and show how the island has changed throughout the years. The cottages offer contemporary comfort yet retain their original charm and character, and are within walking distance of the harbour and long sandy beaches. Both properties are designed for couples, but they also offer an additional stowaway Z bed for one additional friend or child. The island, a fine walking and bird watching destination, is dominated by 16th century Lindisfarne Castle, standing dramatically on a rocky outcrop – the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, the 7th century seat of Christian learning, are close by. Across the causeway, Northumberland’s many delights; Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses for boat trips to the Farne Islands’ bird and seal colonies, and Alnwick Castle and Gardens, all of which are within easy driving distance. Though each property is completely self contained, a lockable interconnecting door allows both cottages to be booked by a single family or group (maximum sleeps 4+2). Local carry-out meals available. Shop 200 yards, pubs serving food 500 yards.

The cottage was exactly what we expected, warm and cosy ..and very quiet ..once the tide had come in ..ideal for relaxing and chilling out .. ps only thing missing was a log fire ..but otherwise it was just what we wanted

The cottage was dirty, unloved & worn. The bed was very uncomfortable. We have stayed in dozens of cottages & this was a real disappointment. No welcome pack. Too expensive.

Lovely cosy cottage in the village close to the Abbey. Well equipped and clean. We had a wonderful holiday on a magical island. Only problem was getting dinner on the first night because the pubs were fully booked and the food available in the shop is limited. A bit more advanced planning next time!

I booked Haven Cottage as a last minute booking before I had read any of the reviews. Delighted to say our experience was entirely positive and I would love to stay there again. The location on St Cuthberts Square is absolutely superb and we were able to park right outside.

The cottage would be a lovely place if it was a lot more cleaner. It's a shame because it's in a great location.

Had a fantastic time here .lovely cottage with a well stocked kitchen . Only managed to use hot tub once but really enjoyed the time we had in it. To make this cottage even better and I'm being very picky here it would be that towels were supplied for bathroom. Will be booking again next time we are going up that way loved it

Haven Cottage is a nice cottage in a lovely setting, however, it could do with really good clean. There is a 6 hour gap between lettings we arrived at 12 o'clock and the cleaner had already left. In the kitchen area the toaster and the worktop still had breadcrumbs on them, the sink and draining board were greasy and dirty. Both the microwave and fridge needed cleaning before use. There were dog hairs on both settees. The bathroom and bedroom could both do with a spring clean. Apart from the problem with the cleanliness of the cottage we enjoyed our stay there.

Whatever this is, it is certainly not the "luxury cottages" advertised. The general standard of cleanliness was poor and the shower was very dirty, both inside and out. Instructions for the appliances and heating were hard to find. There are much better places to stay on Holy Island.
