From the majestic cliffs of the North Devon Coast to the dramatic moors, rolling hills and woods inland, Exmoor is an area of beautiful and dramatic contrasts. The coastline is a marvellous combination of high rugged cliffs with stupendous views and small picturesque towns nestling in lush valleys. Lynton, Lynmouth, Combe Martin and Porlock are the main coastal towns to visit here. Exmoor is a paradise for walkers, with more than 600 miles of footpaths in strikingly varied countryside. Wildlife lovers should look out for the red deer that roam freely over the moorland and the herds of Exmoor ponies. Exmoor was the setting for Lorna Doone, one of the classics of Victorian literature, and there are many reminders of this tragic story to be found here.
