Immortalised in song, Loch Lomond is less than an hour’s drive from the great city of Glasgow, yet offers some of the most beautiful and peaceful scenery in Scotland. Loch Lomond is the largest expanse of freshwater lake in Britain, and contains around 60 islands. The largest, Inchmurrin, even boasts a hotel. The Loch is a popular boating centre, hosting every type of craft from canoes to cruisers. If you don’t have your own boat, why not take the cruise from Balloch at the Loch’s southern end? And if you prefer to travel on dry land, the West Highland Way runs along the Loch’s east side and is a favourite with walkers. The pretty village of Luss on the west side is a popular destination here too.
