For spectacular mountain scenery, beautiful lakes and wild forests, Snowdonia is hard to beat. The National Park, which covers an extensive area of North Wales from Conwy in the north to Aberdovey in the south, and includes a long stretch of unspoilt coastline, is home to the highest mountains in Wales. Most of these can be climbed without the use of special equipment, making the region a favourite with hikers. But even if you’re not up to a climb, you can always take the Snowdon Mountain Railway right to the very top of the peak. The Swallow Falls are a famous beauty spot here, attracting many visitors, while if you feel like a day at the seaside, there are charming resorts like Barmouth to enjoy.
