This vast expanse of mountains, rivers and glens is the largest, and wildest, National Park in Britain. With more than 50 peaks over 3,000 feet it is also the highest part of Britain, popular with mountain hikers, climbers and skiers. Nature still rules supreme here. The Cairngorms are home to 25% of the nation’s threatened wildlife species, where golden eagles soar and you can walk among Britain’s only herd of reindeer. You can see bison, wolves and wild boar at the Kincraig Highland Wildlife Park and ospreys thrive at the Loch Garten Nature Reserve. The Spey river runs through the park, its pure waters an essential ingredient in the malt whisky produced in places like Glen Livet, Dalwhinnie and Tomintoul. And at Aviemore you’ll find Britain’s largest skiing centre.
