It will be a shame to lose this cottage. There is a shortage of “sensible” Holiday property close to the village. To keep it efficient / viable for rental, the cooker should be upgraded and the heating / hot water temperature restricted.

We were in the property for 14 nights. Lovely cottage but no washing machine or dish washer. There was only 1 tray to cook items in oven. The bathroom could really do with updating sooner rather than later. The bedroom downstairs could do with updating. The cottage is ideally situated well off the road and away from the square which is brilliant. We would definately use it again.

Such a beautiful, quirky cottage in a superb quiet location. Amazing views. An old property but a very comfortable one which worked really well for the 5 of us & our spaniel. (1 oap, 2 adults 2 kids age 3 &7) We topped & tailed the kids in the upstairs single room as to allow mum in law to sleep downstairs with more room in double. Also upstairs double bedroom with door leading to upper seating area in garden. Lounge with tv & DVD Downstairs: Kitchen small but well equipped. Bathroom clean if not a little old but hey it served us well. Dining room well equipped with chairs for all. Weather allowed us to use outdoor table & chairs to dine out in front garden. Great to have livestock in the adjoining field : the kids especially liked the visits from the 2 donkeys. Location : hidden from the road so safe for pet & kids but with great views & only a short walk up local amenities. Pubs, village square, shops all very short walking distance. Only downside was not being able to stay longer! Local areas to visit: Eskdale to Ravensglass Stram train Muncaster Castle Broughton play park & lake Ulverston & Hoad Hill Coniston Haverthwaite Steam Train to Windermere

A good sized cottage with every thing we needed. Comfy beds and on the whole clean. Furniture is dated though serviceable. Probably a bit expensive when compared to similar. There is wi-fi so a shame not be be able to use it on the telly which is old and lacks modern catch-up functions and easy program look-up. Would also be good to have a washing machine-there is space in the garage although I am sure it could be accommodated in the house with a bit of thought. On a very negative note the bathroom really needs attention, ideally replacing, re-tiling and new vinyl floor. Garage lacks a lock so we felt uncomfortable putting our bikes in there. Nice to have a garden. Shame the top garden is not better fenced as we could not let our dog out without being on a lead. Being a Jack Russel she was all for taking on the bull and 2 donkeys in the field behind. Having been so negative there are a lot of pluses too as we were very comfy and there was no shortage of hot water at the end of a hard day. Good pubs locally, especially The Manor for excellent real ale and the bakers makes great pies and cakes. Village has some unique features including the original market square and the cider track takes you onto trails and paths further north. Next village - a couple of miles walk also brews own beer. Nice walks locally and bike rides and beeches not far away. On a whole a great holiday. We would return to both the village and the cottage but hope the owners make some improvements before then.
