The cottage is set in a lovely location for a "get away from it all break". Its setting is peaceful and quiet, the owners home is close enough for them to be on hand if any help or advice is needed, but far enough away to allow for that sense of having your own space. There are lots of things to do in the area. The final 100 yards of the track down to the farm is a little bumpy, but once through the owners gate they have a smooth tarmac drive. The owners gave us a very warm welcome and they let you know that they are there if you need them, but leave you alone to enjoy your break. Would stay there again.

This property is a kind of barn conversion located in a quiet, remote spot some way down a farm track, the nearest village being roughly a mile and a half or so away. The village in question, Abbots Bromley, is quite nice with a number of hostelries though as far as we could see, just one general store. For larger stores, the visitor has to make a journey to Rugeley or Uttoxeter. NB Our reason for choosing the Old Carthouse in the first inst was because it was reasonably close to Lichfield where we wanted to see a number of historical attractions. Unfortunately the remoteness of the Carthouse is possibly responsible for the very poor phone reception and the complete absence of WIFI connectivity, hence we had to travel some distance to pick up emails. The owners of the property are very pleasant, friendly and unobtrusive and their two dogs equally friendly. Concerning the property itself, whilst the furniture was quite comfortable, we found the cupboards to be located quite high on the wall, which for those of us who are smaller than average height, difficult to reach. We also found the pillows in the bedroom to be rather uncomfortable.

We used The Old Carthouse as a base to visit various National Trust properties in the area. It is a lovely cottage in a very peaceful and quiet location at the end of a lane which made it a very enjoyable stay. The owners Ant and Carly we're very welcoming, and we appreciated the milk and biscuits on arrival. We always got a welcome from Meg and Holly the dogs on returning to the cottage!! Abbots Bromley has some lovely pubs which was about 2-3 miles away, we found The Crown very good. There was a Tesco and Morrison's at Rugely which was about 3-4 miles away.
