A lovely area, and he cottage was comfortable and had all we needed. The owner was welcoing and helpful but not intrusive, which is what we like. The views were to die for when the sun was shining, especally in the evening. Our weather was very mixed with sun and rainevery day, but we enjoyed ourselves exporing Shropshire by car as it was so interesting and very dog friendly in the cafes!

Cosy, compact, warm cottage in idyllic location, close to the Offa's Dyke Path, just up the lane with 360 degree stunning scenery all around. It’s just a few miles away from Oswestry with indoor and outdoor markets and 2 supermarkets, 2 good local pubs (one within walking distance!). There is so much to see in the area: Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, Lake Vyrnwy, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Llangollen, British Ironworks Centre, Montgomery, and much more! It’s also about 1 ½ hours from the coast so ideal.
Pigsty Cottage is, as the name suggests, a converted pigsty so it is compact but was surprisingly more spacious inside than it looked from the external photo. It has underfloor heating and plenty of solar heated water (as well as emersion heater). It was good to have an enclosed garden opposite the cottage and also a field next to it where our dog could safely run free, with enviable views across the valley and mountains beyond. It was great having good wi-fi while we were there to plan our trips. The mobile signal was also good.
Suggestion: please ensure you actually speak to the owner, Pippa, a few days before you arrive to ensure she knows you are definitely booked in. There was a mishap on our booking and she was not aware of it, although everything was put right in the end and she could not have been more helpful and attentive which more than made up for the mishap! We would definitely return.

We stayed at Pigsty Cottage for 5 days, we had a very enjoyable time. Cottage was spotless. If you want to get away from the hussell and bussell of everyday life this the place to go. Very remote, views are amazing. Not very long drives from Oswestry & Llangollen which are very quaint places. Cottage well equipped. Would stay here again.

The cottage is in need of a deep clean and updating.
There's cobwebs from the ceiling and a damp smell in the kitchen cupboards. Lots of items need to be replaced, such as the sofa which you literally sink into as the springs have gone, the cafetiere which is cracked and has bits missing, there's no bbq (even though it's listed on the website). Also needs a new toaster and fridge - as the fridge doesn't stay on all the time, as we found out when our ice cream melted in the freezer compartment!
The bathroom needs updating - as you can't stand up in the shower due to the very low ceiling and there's nowhere to dry your towels as there's no heating upstairs and only underfloor heating downstairs. It wasn't particularly warm when we were there (August) so the towels stayed damp all week and began to smell after a couple of days!
We had no heating or hot water the first day, as the heating programme hadn't been set and no wi-fi for the first 2 days. It was also described as a Dog Friendly cottage, which is why we booked, however on arrival the instructions in the cottage stated that no dogs were allowed upstairs, which meant our dog had to sleep in a different room to us, which should have been specified before booking. This could be a lovely cottage, but needs some money spent on it and should in no way be rated a 4-star cottage.

Pigsty Cottage sits on the crest of a green valley, and the views from all angles are beautiful. The area is rural without being remote and it was always a pleasure to come back from day trips to the cottage and sit in the garden overlooking the valley with a glass of wine. The cottage is tiny but adequate for two people and the woodstove made it cosy on the one or two nights that were a bit cooler. Pip was helpful and welcoming, while respecting our privacy, and for me, the place was a little bit of heaven. I would happily return again, in fact, we joked that we weren't leaving...!
