Lovely looking cottage in nice enough location. Short drive to the sea or the other direction to Beverley. Nice decor and comfortable beds and sofa. Nice shower room in twin bedroom and lovely big bath in master bedroom. A little lacking of some basic utensils in the kitchen. No scissors, no tin opener, not masses of crockery and pots and pans but ok for the 2 of us.

We booked on the basis of it being "pet friendly" and knew there were some restrictions under the "terms and conditions". On arrival there was a list in The Smithy which was:- dogs not allowed on carpeted areas, dogs not allowed on the beds, dogs not allowed on the furniture, dogs not allowed in the bedrooms and dogs must be kept on leads at all times in public areas. Well our dogs are part of our family and are used to being allowed to do all of the above so between our arrival and our departure they were constantly being reprimanded and on the odd occasion smacked. One dog was so wound up that he didn't settle at all and despite bringing their crate to sleep in he howled all night. After no sleep we decided to head home the next day despite paying for a week. It just wasn't fair on the dogs, they were miserable and so were we. Now The Smithy is a wonderful lodge - beams, wood burner, very romantic and the area lovely. There was one pub in walking distance but alas not "dog friendly"! and you weren't allowed to leave dogs unattended at any time at The Smithy. So all in all yes we would love to go back but not with our lovable mutts and without them it wouldn't be a family holiday.
