The location was great. The bathroom does not have any lock. The house gets very cold and heating cuts off randomly. Could do with new bed linen and improve overall cleanliness We stayed for 2 nights only but the owner charged us full 3 night charge and did not consider any discount as suggested by the cottage company. The man I spoke over the phone who was not the owner was quite abrupt.

Staff at reception were very very helpful with our leaving date and could not do enough to help with any inquire from local knowledge on walks to taxis . Need to do something with the smell from the drains , but think this is due to the septic tank ? Overall a very relaxing stay apart from the nightly hunt for the very large spiders (would be good for Halloween )

We booked this at short notice so the cost had been slightly reduced - so for two of us it was not really value for money - whereas 4 adults + 4 children sharing would be more cost effective. The cottage is in need of updating - the decor/curtains in the bedrooms could do with renewing and the bedrooms would benefit from net curtains as they are on the ground floor. The cleanliness could be improved - I had to clean the sinks in the utility room & the bathroom , and there were quite a few webs around the place. Many people had commented in the 'Guest Book' about the lack of refrigerator space - we only just managed to store items for the two of us - so there would definitely not be enough space for a family with children and it would be a great improvement if a larger fridge/freezer was installed in the utility room. The double bed was quite uncomfortable (again many comments to that effect in the 'Guest Book') and some of the bedding in the other bedrooms was very creased. The 'WiFi' was not very effective at all! Having said all that - the cottage was in a fabulous location - right on the canal - and the staff in the 'Tea Rooms' across the road were very friendly & helpful. We had no hot water when we returned one evening and after a quick call - it was sorted out within 15 minutes.

Great location near good pub, canal lovely for walks and cycling. Good facilities with a few minor gaps. Tumble dryer but no drying rack or line, toilet flushes poorly and rather grotty dead zone behind house. However lovely huge sofa for whole family, great balcony for evening drinks.

This cottage is set in a lovely location overlooking the canal. The shop across the road caters for your needs for a paper in the morning, however, it is quite expensive for other items. The pub across the road is also perfect if you dont want to cook and you can sit out and watch the goings on! The area does get very busy for parking during the day so it is lucky that the cottage has its own parking. Although the cottage was clean when we arrived, it could have been done to a better standard. A nice gesture would be to have a 'start up' or 'welcome' kit for when new guests arrive to ensure they have toilet rolls, kitchen roll and maybe some milk, eggs, bread, tea and coffee etc at least for the first couple of days. We have had this in previous holiday cottages. We would advise anyone to use the kettle which goes on the stove rather than the electric kettle as this was full of limescale. Would suggest a larger fridge would be suitable to cater for 8 people. The grill tray which is in the oven needs a good clean (we ended up going out and buying foil trays to use in the grill and a new frying pan) - suggest the utensils and pots and pans be upgraded / increased in quantity to be suitable for 8 guests. The cottage is advertised for 8 people, however, the main table in the kitchen/dining area seats 6 as standard - there are spare chairs but you would struggle. Similarly with the seating on the balcony - there is seating for 4 people with the table and chairs, spare chairs are available but space is limited. BBQ is in need of a clean if you wanted to use it. More ambient lighting needed upstairs so you dont have to have the main light on in the evenings. The bedrooms are quite spacious for the size of the property, make sure you take your own coat hangers though! One thing which did concern us is that the property seems to have a lack of main plug sockets and a lot of the sockets available are run off extension leads (one didnt work in the twin room which meant only 1 plug was available). Considering the size of the family room then more storage could be available in here. We had read previous reviews of the property before we arrived, the one thing we do agree with is the issue with a leak in the bath when you have a shower, need to ensure you mop up when you have had a shower!! With regards to outdoor space, there is a small patch of land to the side of the property but this is unfenced so you would have to take extra care with younger children and animals. There is an area to the other side of the property, which can be seen from the balcony, however, this unaccessible and gravelled so not ideal for smaller children to play on. This area would have to be accessed by coming out of the front door, onto the road (which is very busy during the day) and climbing over a concrete piped area (not ideal). Overall, our suggestion is that this is a lovely cottage which needs some TLC and upgrading. Due to the location of the property I think this could be an outstanding cottage if some changes were made.
