It has been a week since we stayed at Yew Tree Barn and we haven't had our £50 security deposit returned despite leaving the place spotless. With other companies we have used (we take at least five short breaks a year in self catering accommodation) we are offered optional insurance, never been asked to hand cash to the owner directly).
The sheets are not cotton, so we spent our Friday night driving to Pontypool to buy some, plus tea towels (none provided) and basic items like salt, pepper, olive oil, eggs and bread. I have never stayed in a property that didn't at least have these items in the store cupboard or welcome basket. If we had been advised before that the cupboards are completely empty we would have prepared for that but it didn't get our break off to the best start.
On leaving there was a fairly curt note asking us to strip any beds we had slept in and to wash the sheets. We did take the sheets off and put them in the washing machine but no washing powder was provided so we couldn't put the wash through.
It was a pleasant space but the lack of a few basic provisions and courtesies spoilt the experience.

Lovely large, light barn conversion just off a busy ish country road. About 2 miles from Usk. Close to lots of interesting places to visit. Our only gripes would be that both the bathroom doors didn't lock (this was pointed out to the owner and had been mentioned in the guest book by previous guests) so we had to organise a system so no embarrassments happened! Also quite a T ian room light bulbs weren't working and the main shower was a nightmare to use! But I don't want to put people off as the place and the countryside around we're beautiful.

Usk and the surrounding area is a great bass to explour south east wales. The brecon Beacons are 30 minutes aways and there is plenty to keep a family entertained all within 30 minutes for a two week break.

A wonderfully spacious converted barn set in the most beautiful countryside.
Well equipped, clean and close to amenities and the lovely village of USK, so much to do but so little time, happy to book again.

A bit too remote but ideal if that's what you're looking for. Owner is a bit slow returning £50 deposit and needed several prompts.

A good base for our family holiday to visit places of interest ranging from steam trains, castles, animals and historic towns.
One minus point was the main shower awkward to get settings correct. Apart from that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Yew tree barn, highly recommend.

Yew Tree Barn is a lovely holiday home in a beautiful location. I especially liked the fact that there is an adjacent paddock and a closable gate, so should you have a dog or children with you they are completely safe. The barn was very well equipped, spacious and lovely and clean. I would not hesitate in booking a return visit.

Overall a lovely barn in lovely setting but spoiled by the wet room and shower, which had very, very hot or very ,very cold water and was difficult to control. Wet room never dried out .so had nasty musty smell even with window left open. Such a shame.

Fantastic place to stay, beautiful location and so peaceful. I cannot fault it. Only issue we had was that the shower did not run hot water and it was ice cold. I am sure that this would be fixed! Overall a fantastic stay and one which I would definitely recommend!

This spacious, bright and contemporary converted barn lies in delightful countryside. Close to the historic little town of Usk, with its fairytale castle, independent shops, many pubs and famous floral decorations, and the appealing village of Raglan - also with castle, pubs, farm shop, gliding club and award-winning butcher! The area is in the heart of historic and beautiful Monmouthshire, with its myriad attractions and eateries. Coarse fishing, 2 miles. Tintern Abbey and the market towns of Abergavenny and Monmouth are all under 10 miles. Exceptional golf courses abound (Ryder Cup 2010), and excellent walking in the Brecon Beacons, Offa’s Dyke, Wye and Usk Valley is available locally.
