Stadtkyll, Eifel, Germany
Set beside the River Wirft in Germany’s stunning Eifel National Park, Landal Wirfttal offers nature at its best. Exhilarating fresh air, breathtaking mountain panoramas and romantic river valleys are complemented by excellent facilities to create a superb base for enjoying a blissful rural idyll which, as the Germans say, ’let nature be nature’.
Lovers of the great outdoors will not be disappointed! There are no less than 250 steep hills surrounding Landal Wirfttal - perfect for walks, cycle and mountain bike rides at any pace - or you may prefer a gentle stroll in the woods, or a spot of fishing on the reservoir. Alternatively, there’s always the indoor swimming pool, and relaxing sports and activities back at the park. Known as Germany’s ’green lungs’, the invigorating Eifel region nestles between the Ahr and Rhine rivers in a landscape shaped by volcanoes and bursting with springs, lakes, bizarre rock formations, deeply carved valleys and majestic mountain vistas. Unsurprisingly, it’s a hiking hotspot and affords fantastic climbing, horse riding, paragliding, hot-air ballooning, cross-country skiing and golf. Surprisingly, it’s also home to the world-famous Nürburgring Grand Prix track - a must for Formula 1 fans! Dotted with enchanting villages, delightful towns and fairytale castles, together with thermal spas such as those at Bad Neuenahr and Bad Münstereifel, the Eifel’s powerful history is reflected in the many museums, while animal and theme parks abound. The Rhine valley also boasts some of Germany’s best red wine - no visitor should leave without sampling at least one glass to accompany the sophisticated local cuisine! Maastricht is less than two hours’ drive, Cologne, Trier and Aachen are accessible for day trips.
