Great location, beach is a short walk through the park and out onto a side road to access the beach for a short distance. Beach is sandy and has a cafe and couple of basic beach shops. Within the park there's a tennis court (a little tired but doesn't really matter when you're playing for fun!) and you have access to racquets/ball at no extra cost. Swimming pool is the warmest I've ever been to, but it doesn't really have a change area so you have to out in a wet cosy - luckily the lodges aren't too far away!
Staff were not intrusive but on the couple of occasions i spoke to them they were most helpful, Colwell Bay is a small group of holiday apartments so close to the beach its wonderful to be able to pop down their for 10mins by foot in the evening to watch to sunset. I would have given the accomadation 10/10 but the bathroom is now looking rather outdated abit grubby compared to the revamp that the bedrooms and living areas have had. Definately good value for money, book your ferry crossing through colwell bay to save even more money !
Colwell bay was a lovely location on the Isle of Wight, the beach has a few beach shops and a place called the Hut, where you can get good food.
excellent accomodation, made all the better for little touches like leaving milk bread shower gel and washing up liquid for us. Having your own parking space was a brilliant idea. swimming pool was great. kids used it every day bar one (when they used the tennis court) literally 5 mins away from the sea via the private gate, and the beach is excellent.
we rotate or holidays, going to iow every other year, picking different locations and this is the first time where we would like to go back to somewhere we've already been
The bay is lovely, great it is so close. Long beach bar is good for basic pub food & watching the sun set.
This will be a rather mixed review!
We arrived and first impressions were not great. A huge backlog of families at reception as they were short staffed and cottages were not cleaned and prepared on time. It took about forty minutes past "check in" time for us to get our keys and then we needed to fetch staff back as the bathroom had not been cleaned. We then had only three patio chairs for a cottage for four and a member of staff fetched us an extra one although we were informed it was policy now for there to be only two chairs !?!? Throughout all this the staff on site were friendly, polite and helpful which is a credit to them in difficult circumstances. They had been let down by procedures beyond their control and were doing their best.
The site is very cramped. "Garden" space is very small - no play space and communal with the cottage next door - no privacy when eating outside. There is a small play area suitable for under sixes but not in sight of the cottages. There is a tennis court which we used once and an indoor swimming pool which we used everyday. It was lovely and warm and a great resource although not visibly cleaned once during our week there. We saw the same leaves and mud patches around the side each day.
The location is excellent - three minute easy walk to the beach and a great selling point for this site.
The cottage itself was well furnished, well equipped and very comfortable - another great selling point for this site.
Overall - good staff, good location, good interior just a cramped site and they need to be better staffed to cope in August.
The cottage was good, the staff genuinely seemed to want us to have a good holiday.
Nice quiet park, the accommodation is really nice but unfortunately the beds let it down.. They are too short if you are over 5ft 11.. The hot tub was really nice.. Would consider returning if the beds were changed..
Had a lovely family holiday fantastic surroundings very relaxing. We would recommend to anyone
All very good. A little under staffed, but they were nice and helpful. Only area of let down was the back garden on a slope and lack of table and chairs for BBQ. Needs some decking to level the back and equipment which make the experience much better. Would go back!
Colwell Bay is pretty and very close to Yarmouth which is lovely. I was disappointed with the layout of the park - every cottage seemed to look directly at another opposite. Was a bit like a small housing estate! Not quite the luxury retreat I was expecting.
A quieter spot on the island, which is what we wanted.
Nice size cottage had everything you need. Nice warm indoor pool. They could do with hiring a better cleaner and a few little touches like clean net curtains but that doesn't ruin the stay. We had a lovely time.
