On arrival a Michaelstow Manor we had a warm welcome, accomodation was not ready 3pm so we were offered a drink by the outside covered pool in the beautiful sunshine. (the area is run down and just needs a really good clean up) Saw the mini golf which wasn't good (very old) but people had paid to play. The Pool cover needs a really good clean and hadn't been pulled over for years. It was under trees so leaves and debris had fallen on roof. (it just needs a good clean). We went back at 4pm accomodation was still not ready but found out we were number 9 so wondered down to chalet to have a look and see why it was taking so long. The site is very dated and run down (but knew this from reviews so no surprise). It is in the middle of no where very quiet but we knew this. If your travelling around it makes a good base. We found number 9 which is under a lot of mature trees the ground is very damp because of this. On looking at the chalet it looked very run down, the blinds were broken and hanging down in the 2nd bedroom (which we could see from the outside) we went straight back to reception to report this. Cant fault the receptionist she was straight on the phone to get it sorted. She offered us complimentary coffee while we waited another hour for it be be fixed and chalet cleaned. On getting keys and going back to accomodation we were met with a very damp smell (not surprising really as it is under the trees in a damp area) we opened the windows (it does state in chalet to keep windows open when inside as damp and ventilation must be a problem). It was as expected old and dated. But it was livable and very cheap (half the price of what you would pay anywhere else in cornwall for that time of year). It would sleep 6 if you used the sofa bed. (a lot on site were sleeping 6 or more). The bed was ok the decor dated but ok. The 2nd bedroom which over looked the back was very damp and smelt of damp. No heating in there. Electric heater in main bedroom and lounge with thermostat. The heating is by meter £1 we used about £8 in our stay in august just to warm chalet and dry wet towels and wet coats but also left windows open when we were there. Bathroom windows 2 were left open all the time as no extractor fan. There is plenty of hot water (immersion heater which we did turn off and on during our stay) The bathroom although outdated was fine, shower was ok and toilet needed flushing a few times after use. The kitchen area was ok, no bowl in sink which we didnt realise it should of had. But it was all usable. When coming back after being out all day the smell of damp was strong (we opended all the windows). It doesnt get any sunshine at all. Number 10 next door to us wasn't used or number 7, 8, 5, number 6 was. I think numbers 9 and 5 chalets are only used when they are busy as during the cooler months they would be so damp and smelly and would cost a fortune to keep warm. The other chalets all seem to be in a better condition and all used. Most people seem happy and many are returnees. The shower did leak onto the floor when used and had rotted the door frame. we did report this when we checked out. We would not return but if you havn't got a big budget and wanted a cheap holiday then Michaelstow iis the place to go. You get what you pay for. We did use the restaurant in main builing the food was very good and homemade. The entertainment was fine for little ones and they all seemed to enjoy themselves. The entertainer was very good and the staff did seem happy.
Accommodation is very old, dated and very basic. It has a strong damp odour and most of the utensils in the kitchen needed washing before use! The curtains were hanging off the rail and looked very tatty. I was disappointed the bar area only opened at night time therefore no breakfasts were offered and the onsite shop has been closed down, this was a pain. They do have a few key items on sale at reception however very highly priced. I have stayed here before and always felt although the it's far from luxury it was value for money however this year the standards have slipped further I feel.
A fantastic holiday had by all! Lots of wonderful memories made.
only one complaint the mattresses were too hard everything else was good
The sofa in the apartment needed some attention but you can see that they are trying to get the whole place refurbished. All the rest - food, staff, and amenities were fantastic. would definitely be back.
This place was a great locAtion for the places we went to ie port Isaac and padstow the village is near a campsite and cider farm. The holiday village it's the grounds are beautiful but the chalets let it down very run down for us it was just a bed to stay and we ate out at the restaurant in St Brewers the The Old Ship In. which is exceptional, I think the chalets are too old and need something else in place maybe. Camp site? Camping pods? Just some ideas
The accommodation was dirty, the bedding was damp and smelt and the whole place needed a refurbish. I appreciate we only paid 150 to stay but that was still over priced for what we received. I thought hoseasons was a good company that delivered high quality accommodation and I'm disappointed they represent this holiday park, I will never book a hoseasons holiday again and would certainly never recommend them. This holiday park could be nice if a bit of care and attention went into it rather than letting families stay in a place that isn't suitable. No one wants to go away to a dirty place. Also a family member a child injuried themselves in the pool and split their head open, there was no staff around for first aid and I had to go into the kitchen for the cook, this is unsafe and unexeptable. I am confident my next holiday will be better as I will be staying away from that park and your company.
We loved the park and surroundings. Kids club was great very high energy! We used the swimming pool which was ace - bit of a pain when we wanted to have a shower after and didn't have any 50ps for it. Accommodation was great for our little family of three - just what we needed. Furniture was a little tired. We had a great price for our holiday and because of the low price we feared the worse, however we were pleasantly surprised. We felt we had terrific value for money.
All the family had a great time, great location for sightseeing Cornwall. Chalet very dated but had all we needed, night time entertainment extremely enjoyable and kids absolutely adored it, very child friendly place to stay and I would love to go back. Tracey.
The site was tired and run down. Could be wonderful with a little money spent on it.
Swimming pool water was extremely cold, one changing room, one shower cost 20p but water never got hot. Play area was lovely and in quite good condition.
Not the best place to stay but apart from the bedroom being damp I had no other complaints. The apartment was clean and well equipped, the pool was clean, the entertainment and the food were amazing. Quite a drive to get to any of the nearby towns but still a nice place
We were not expecting much from what we had read in other reviews. However, the park was central to most things with some travelling each day but not miles to go. The facilities were a little run down but the appartment had been refurbished and provided for what we needed in a base. The evening entertainments team worked very hard to provide something every night. The holiday was what we made it and my two teenage children would love to go there agian next year. There is room for improvement but we had a lovely week.
We had a wonderful stay here, the staff were friendly and helpful and the shows they put on were fantastic. Considering it was in the middle of the summer holidays we got great value for money and would love to return next year
The chalets were basic and beds uncomfortable but lovely quite location staff were very helpful good central location nice club good value for money
We are a family of 6, 2 adults and 4 children aged between 12 and 4. We had a lovely stay. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. We spent every evening from 6pm until 8pm in the indoor swimming pool. We never went to the evening entertainment but it was always busy. Would definitely go again. Reading some of the reviews before we came I wasn't expecting anything but the accommodation was clean and tidy.
