The west wing was huge! Far bigger than we thought and lovat
The important aspect of Ranksborough Hall was that it was what it purported to be. Comfortable, pleasant, good situation and helpful staff. Good value for money at the lodges we hope to return.
This was the chosen venue for my daughter's hen weekend in January. Having stayed at the lodges before,we thought this would be ideal. All was going well until the second evening when the heating had stopped working when we returned from a meal out. Gradually the lodge became colder and colder as were sitting around talking. Despite calling for help on the Sunday morning, nothing could be done to fix it and so our enjoyment was spoiled and we ended up going home earlier than planned. Although the hot tub had been good on Friday we couldn't use it again as we couldn't shower afterwards as the water was cold. I have delayed writing a review thinking this may have been an isolated incident but more recent reviews tell me this appears to be a common occurrence. The standard of the fittings had also deteriorated since our previous visit so sadly we won't be back.
On arrival at 16:45 no staff. Had to call a number. Problem was we had no range or almost non by telephone.
After 20 minutes we finally got someone from maintenance. We stayed for a week and we didn't see someone at the office or at our lodge.
We thing that’s not a very good service. A closed office on arrival.
Had an amazing stay at the Hall Apartment. Had the best weather of the year the week we stayed which made it even more perfect. Bbq's, Sun Bathing and a few cold drinks. Apartment was cool enough in the evening to get the fire going too :)
Great little get away and brilliant value for money. Would love to stay again.
Overall, quite disappointing as the lodge was DEFINITELY not luxury. Fixtures and fittings were budget at best, and the sofa was missing cushions. The boiler wasn't working the first night which meant I was up from 2am as our 2 year old woke up with the the cold. To be fair the staff were excellent sorting the problem. There were cobwebs pretty much all over and the cooker was covered in fat/oil (I took pics). The floor wasn't great and there is no Hoover to do it yourself. There is a notice up asking to keep the place clean due to ants, and there are lots of ants but it's a bit of a cheek when the place isn't clean anyway. We stayed in the OASIS lodge; the hot tub was nice and this is really the only claim of "luxury", table and chairs are very wonky and limp. The park is nice even without facilities but with a bit of money spent on better fixtures and better cleaners the place would be much better.
what a lovely way to spend a few days away, the accommodation was great for the price. Very little to do onsite but great place to stay
Ideal if you want to just chill and relax. Lodge needed some repairs. pans far too small to cook for 6 - thank goodness we had 2 lodges as we were able to use sets from both lodges. Suggest you take your own small sharp knife! Hot tub was lovely. Initially thought it was in the wrong position but really enjoyed the seclusion. Radiator in wardrobe very handy. The staff we met were very helpful. Beds surprisingly comfortable, nice bedding.
Both lodges needed a bit of a dust when we got there but kitchen and bedrooms were fine.
Things to take - (beside sharp knife) dressing gown - great for getting out the hot tub, toilet rolls (we weren't provided with any spare) games for indoor and out (there's plenty of space) and a nice bottle to enjoy on the veranda.
Let the staff know if there is a problem or anything missing (hairdryer, kitchen bin etc) and just go with the flow......
Had a fantastic stay. Will go back for sure
Beautiful area and very friendly staff. Accommodation (West wing) was extremely spacious if a little tired in places. Overall, excellent value for money.
Chris was very helpful.
Place was lovely as was the lodge but it could have been a lot cleaner - had only had a quick go through and left dust/dirt and cobwebs.
Hot tub lovely but not in sunlight understand it's there to be more private just a shame.
Would we stay there again - yes so much to see and do xx
Dissappointing stay - we were not advised that works on a lodge opposite would be ongoing all week - therefore workmen were there from 9 - 5 each day - this stopped us from being able to enjoy the patio/decking area all week. In addition groundmen were cutting the lawns for 3 of the 5 mornings with a loud power strimmer. Again disturbing the peace and stopping us from using the outside area.
There was a welcome pack in the lodge, but it had no information in it about the area, bar 2 menus for the same pub. There was no clarification that you needed to travel to the next town for anything.
The pack did advise that ants in the lodge were somtimes an issue - however we found that it was a constant problem, once we'd started to prepare food and had to continually kill the ants and clean worksurfaces. This was pretty off putting and along with the workmen and gardeners - really spoilt our stay.
The lodge itself is was perfectly nice, clean (prior to the ants)and roomy for a couple - the second room is tiny - fine for kids, but not really for 4 adults. It is supposed to be luxury, but I don't think it should really be classed as that. The living area is nicely decorated, with a large tv and nice fire, but then the settee is old and red, which doesn't match with the rest of the decor (just pointing this out as this spoils the look if the park is going for luxury accomodation). Another picky issue was that they provided canisters for tea coffee and sugar, however they were all empty (but not clean). As a luxury lodge, it would have been really welcoming to find a few complementary items.
We knew the park had no shops on site, which was fine, but it was disappointing that there was nothing within a reasonable walking distance.
Had no real dealings with staff during our stay, on arrival it was "here's your key, hand over your deposit and numbers are on the door for any issues".
Overall the holiday would have been really nice, the lodge had monies off, so we thought it was a bargin when we booked, billed as a luxury lodge with a hot tub.
However the constant interuptions and being overlooked by workmen / gardeners really spoilt the relaxing break we'd hope to have.
On departure we accidently left clothes in the lodge, on contacting the park they were super helpful in locating the items and promising to post them back to us, which we were really grateful for. However this didn't go to plan - and i didn't get my items back for almost 3 weeks -having called and texted several times and several people. The issue still isn't totally sorted even now.
Good cheap weekend away. Lovely interior and best bit was the hottub! Only problem was you do have to keep quiet past 10 and not use the hottub past this time which is a restriction when advertised as a holiday. Overall good value for money and in the heart of the British countryside!
The west wing was perfect for our family gathering, lovely big rooms for each guest. I think if the owners Had spent a bit more money it would be finished to a very high spec. Only downside there was a small garden bench which would never have seated 10 and the Hot tub was a bit murky on the 3rd and 4th day.
Lovely quiet place. We had a wonderful time. There wasn't many lodges there, it looked like a working progress but we loved that because it was so quiet and not over filled like previous parks we have been too. Would definitely go back!!
