Upon arrival, we didn't have to wait long at reception to collect our keys. We also opted to check in earlier and pay extra which was also not an issue on arrival.
We were pleased with the location of the caravan, and the general appearance from the outside. We did think the 'decking area' was quite small though. The addition of the plastic table & chairs is nice.
Initial opinions as we entered the caravan were positive, it didn't look dated & looked clean. I would however say the sofa/bench like seating area is extremely uncomfortable - we used pillows off the beds we wer'nt using to sit / rest on when watching TV. New cushions needed all around the sofa.
The kitchen was well equipped with all the necessities, however when we came to use the oven the knob had come off which switches on the gas for the oven its self. I phoned the reception of the park several times as I couldn't get through. I eventually gave up & rung hoseasons who we booked with. They were also unable to get through to the reception of the park & so sent an email to someone senior from what I gather.
We then waited about an hour and a half, when a polite chap arrived and replaced the knob. The oven then worked fine. It was very inconvenient though & I would have expected this to have been noticed before we had arrived.
The beds were all very comfortable, a little soft if you like a firmer mattress but still comfortable. My husband & I however, did not sleep well. I will explain why further down.
Something else to mention, we were told my a member of staff when we checked in that the swimming facilities would cost £5 each. We were also told this again when I phoned up from the caravan to clarify the price before we set off for a swim.
Upon arriving at the pool, we were informed we need not pay, as if staying on site we would have been given entertainment passes. This was obviously good news however we hadn't brought the passes as we had been told you pay. The lady on the pool reception couldn't get through to the main reception to clarify us as guests so we had to go all the way back to the caravan to get the passes.
This resulted in an enormous melt down from our son... Annoying. The staff should be informing the guests correctly.
Including the uncomfortable sofa, there are a couple of other things we would want changed if we were to re-book this caravan.
The first would be the type of lock on the inside of the caravan.
From the inside of the van, the door could be easily unlocked via turning the metal knob. There was no way possible of making this safe so that our son of 6 years, who has significant learning difficulties, could not get out. This was particularly worrying for us and made the whole trip extremely stressful. My husband & I both struggled to sleep and had to keep getting up through the night to ensure he was still asleep in bed. As if he were to get up and wonder about (as he does from time to time at night) he would have silently & easily let himself out.
I resorted to putting all the pots & pans on the floor with spoons in so that if our son had got near the door in the night we would have woken! This however should not be necessary.
In my opinion this lock makes the van very un-child friendly. Even a toddler could unlock it. Would strongly suggest a key lock on the inside or a bolt type of lock at the top of the door.
If this is not changed we would not book again.
Also, the windows in the caravan were all very dated and had dropped. Some you had to lift to open.
The below par windows became very apparent as it was very windy outside during our stay. The wind gusted through the gaps around the windows, blowing the curtains about at night time and created an unpleasent cold draft.
The windows did not have any safety catches either, so if a child were to open it they could merrily climb straight out. Another safety floor.
Regarding the park it's self - we were very happy. Everywhere was clean & tidy, and the facilities were good.
Another safety point to mention, would be, at the children's park/ play area, there is no gate stopping the children exiting into the road or from going up the stairs to the bar / seating areas.
I appreciate older kids can go in & out freely however hate to put off the younger ones from wondering in & out would be very helpful.
Regarding the parking outside the caravan, please just put a sign saying park to the left! One assumes you would park in front of your door and decking area, however it appears that wasn't the case where we were staying. I ended up having to walk to security to ask them to get other cars to move so we could get in our proper allocated space.
To finish on a positive note - the flower beds and garden type areas were extremely well kept & very beautiful. Thumbs up to the ground maintenance team & the gardeners!
