Daleside Lodge was nice on first appearance, however there are many areas where things could be changed for the better. Firstly the key was missing for the front door so we had to use the patio doors all of the time, this was a little inconvenient and it resulted in dragging in grass from outside.
Secondly the place was overrun with enormous spiders, granted in this environment and at this time of year it probably cannot be avoided but it wasn't very pleasant at the time. The lodge wasn't the cleanest we have stayed in and could do with a bit refurbishment, we have stayed in better for the same price or less.
We never slept too well during our stay but not quite sure why, the bed was comfortable enough and it was peaceful but we never quite got a good nights sleep.
On arrival at check in, it wasn't the warmest of arrivals, check out was much better as the young woman was very helpful, pleasant and cheerful.
The hot tub here was great but lacked privacy, there were so many comments in the guest book stating the same thing from previous guests yet they still have not addressed the issue. All of the lodges /hot tubs overlook each other so privacy really is a problem.
One thing we were very unhappy about was the amount of hot water available, we found that between two of us we could not have a shower one after another as there was not enough hot water, this also meant that we could not stay in the shower for more than about 10 minutes before the hot water ran off, this is pretty poor.
Comparing this to other lodges we have recently stayed at (Aspatria, North Lakes Lodges and Thanet Well - Both Cumbria) it really needs to address some issues to compete. Our other breaks were around the same price if not cheaper yet were far more luxurious. Take Aspatria for example, log burning stove, very private hot tub, first class fixtures and fittings, bread and milk on arrival and very welcoming staff. Thanet Well also had a more private hot tub and the fixtures and fittings were in much better condition.
Don't get me wrong, Daleside Lodge is nice and the setting is lovely and peaceful, however we do feel slightly let down and they need to address the issues such as the hot tub as most people clearly think that this is an issue.
