I have been to many log cabins before and although the Loxley executive at weston Wood lodges was the most expensive I have been to, (£700 for the week) it was also the most underwhelming!
Ill start with a slight positive, the reception staff over the phone were very friendly and kind, allowing us to arrive slightly earlier to check in as the cabin was ready, although we was waiting 45 mins for receptionist to arrive back on site to actually check us in.
Once we arrived at our cabin, we walked straight into a dark kitchen, although it was clean and tidy, already we had the impression that this cabin would be less luxury and more standard.
Through to the main part of the cabin, with its woodchip walls and 80s style internal doors, the positive being the sofas were luckily very comfortable and the curtains were much more fashionable, the dining room table was so light and cheap looking and 1 of the double glazed windows only had 1 panel of glass and the frame being bodge job fixed with plastic covering the gap, this caused serious condensation on the window throughout the week.
The bathroom had a shower cubicle, (again quite dated although a nice shower head) toilet, sink and very wonky blind.
The bedrooms were basic but with comfy beds, good storage and cream carpets, we later found when moving the bed to create some space for our travel cot, there was a few spots of black mould behind the bed, 1 bit quite close to where our head would be.
There was plenty of towels, toilet roll, plates and bowls but limited cutlery, cleaning equipment (no hoover, brush or even dustpan, 2 black bin bags to last the week etc) and glasses, we ended up going out to buy more as not enough for our party of 5 adults and 3 kids(2 toddlers).
The cabin had a dishwasher although after day 1 we realised it would be much easier to hand wash as the dishwasher hardly cleaned the dishes we put in. The TV was also on the blink most of the week, only showing certain channels without any flashing. The boiler was set to come on at 9am and turn off at 10pm, a note was on the boiler cupboard door stating we could not touch the boiler, so with 2 toddlers up at 6am,it was quite cold until the electric fire had chance to warm the room.
Then the deposit... £100 on arrival, returned the day you leave by bank transfer, not a problem but still chasing this payment 2 weeks later , however there were numerous signs around the cabin stating reasons you could risk loosing your deposit if you didn't comply, my understanding is a deposit is for incase of loss or damage, not if noise persists after 11pm or you open the cupboard door to the boiler...
The hot tub was lovely and warm by day 2 and was a nice addition to the cabin. The site was tidy and well maintained with a nice large grass area and the few staff you saw across site seemed friendly. Good location for day trips or pub afternoons.
All in all I wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend for the price we paid but our holiday was what we made it, the cabin was generally clean and furniture comfy (other than the table & chairs) it just lacked the lovely luxury you would expect
