had a lovely time glad we could take three dogs!
We had a very pleasant holiday, everyone was very helpful and friendly. The holiday park is
a great place to visit and relax.
Just all a little tired and dated. Would not allow my kids in the pool as did not look clean and so had to drive to the fort William pool. Sad as it is such a lovely location. Restaurant staff were two young girls who just didn't want to be there and when we arrived asked if we had a reservation as if they were having to squeeze us in when there was only one other couple in the restaurant. Shame really.
A nice location but unfortunately a drive from the towns and limited facilities on site, Jo a good place for children. Dogs were allowed but very few seem to be on leads and the management did not worry about it.
A great holiday, fabulous weather and accommodation.
Great time really loved the site
We have been to this site several times. We were extremely disappointed at the general lack of upkeep of the lodges and onsite facilities, general cleanliness and staff. broken bathroom floor tiles, broken bedroom lamps, one with just a lightbulb in a stand, the shadenot bothered to be fixed on. We found dirty used tissues under the bed. Swimming pool temperature too cold for small children and babies, sauna broken all week, water activites unmanned with boat out of use the entire week. The day we arrived we had travelled 12 hours from southampton. Despite bar opening times reading 11am, everything closed, we couldnt even getva hot drink. We could not use the toilets after our journey as there were no lights, when we asked the receptionist she said the switch was behind the bar and she had no access. Bar facilities had set opening times but grown adults thrown out of the pool/games room by the restaurant manager at 8.30pm when due to close at 11pm. When confronted about the timings she maintained she didnt make any money out of the pool table. She maintained we took our own drinks in but never opened the bar for us to buy them.
I have scored this as a 10 out of 10 Excellent rental because the positives are so incredible. There are a few negatives and I will come to them later but let's start with the good stuff and there is a lot of it.
First the location, other places say they have good views, or loch side location, but the location of these lodges and the views you get is beyond belief. I have attached a photo of our lodge taken from a canoe on the loch to give you an idea.
After the location has sunk in you may just want to while away a few hours / days admiring the view and not do much else but we have teenage children and we like an active holiday. In the week we were there we went Kayaking down the river Lochy and took a canoe out on the loch, we went canyoning and white water rafting, and had a go at both archery and clay pigeon shooting. We even found time to take a boat trip to the small isles and had dolphins playing by the side of the boat. We didn't get time to go quad biking, or mountain bike riding and I would have liked to go wakeboarding maybe next time.
There is a small restaurant and a friendly bar on site, reasonable quality and reasonable prices, the restaurant has a limited menu and if you went everyday you might get a bit bored with the same food each day.
Now for the negatives, please keep these in perspective this is a great place to go just be aware.
The lodge had a few minor but irritating faults, there was no airer so you couldn't dry wet clothes, an essential bearing in mind the amount of water activities on offer. The curtain track was broken in the main bedroom so you could not open the curtains in that room and there was no instructions for how to use the oven plus we had hundreds of knives and forks but only 4 teaspoons. minor issues but irritating.
The huge patio windows open onto a sun deck but there were no seats on it so you couldn't sit outside and admire the view
The activities available are many and brilliant but you have to know about them, while I don't want high pressure selling a bit more information about what is available would have helped.
WiFi is almost non existent even in the bar and restaurant, wifi is an essential these days and this really needs to be sorted particularly as in this part of Scotland there is little phone reception. There was a small spot in the reception area where you could get a wifi signal and people would huddle in that area.
The swimming pool is small but adequate but is only open until 5.30pm.
Some of the activities were not available, in particular donut rides, wakeboarding and water skiing because the speed boat had broken some time ago and had not been fixed. Bearing in mind the location this is a shame because it would have been great to do those things. There was absolutely NO evening entertainment other than just going to the bar and the bar is very quiet. There is a pool table but not much else, they had planned to have a quiz but in the week we were there, there was never more than us and maybe 2 or 3 other people in the bar.
Despite these small issues we had a brilliant holiday and will be re booking for next year. Even more impressively our teenaged children wanted to come back too. Overall a great place either for a romantic quiet getaway or a thrill a minute activity holiday. I strongly suggest you ignore the niggles and go to this amazing place
Beautiful views peaceful tranquil and lovely people who run the park the only thing is there is no on site shop
If your after a beach holiday it's not for you but if you love walking fishing water sports and touring u won't find better than the Great Glen
Pool was good but could have been a bit bigger and cleaner
Sorely missed water sports on the park that used to be there, ie doughnuts, wakeboarding, bike hire etc
Me and my family spent five nights at Great Glen Water Park this August. The area is really beautiful and peaceful. My advice would be to call the staff before you arrive to get the confirmation that your laudge will be available when you arrive. Secondly, some laudges are in a fine condition, some are below satisfactory. I would highly advice to get the confirmation before you arrive that you will be getting a good one.Thirdly, if you have any space in your car, take an extra blanket or two, it could be very handy for the first night. The laudge is next to the lake, so it's not strange that some dampness penetrates into the house. The next night will be fine if you keep the heating through the night and possibly day.
The lady, working as a manager is very kind and professional. If any issues, I would advise to talk to her directly.
Overally I am satisfied and will be coming back again.
We had a fantastic week kids were never board & the views from the lodge were stunning,we will go back
We had a great time at the Great Glen Water Park, stunning location with lodge right on the loch. Lots to do at the park and in the area. Lodge was very comfortable and spacious. Well run and maintained, staff very helpful and friendly. Great for cycling and walking along the fantastic track that runs behind the lodges, I think goes all the way from Fort William to Inverness along the Caledonian Canal. Found lots of places with great food.
Interior dated. Mould on the grouting in the shower. Had a damp feel generally and poorly resources for catering ; two small saucepans, small oven dishes difficult for family of five.
