lodgevery cleanbut couldwith update
We used Gurnard Pines as a base from which to explore the Isle of Wight. The accomodation was excellent..very clean , spacious and everything you needed for a weeks break away.
No equipment hire (for tennis or any other outdoor sports in general) along with a lack of staff, empty function rooms and no real reception desk gave the feeling of a location in need of owner investment.
the location was ideal close to cowes but the main site was aged and in need of some work not what we were expecting after looking at the sites website . The cabin was in need of cleaning and the damp and rotting wood cabin with its local ants inviting themselves in every day was not great with all this we just planed to stay of the site for as long as posable , disappointment as our last holiday was so great .
We have stayed at a few places in Isle of wight and i think we have now found the one we will use going forwards.
Excellent facilities (swimming, tennis, kids play area)
Nice clean cabins with views of the countryside
Good location, central to everything
Excellent value for money
Would definitely stay here again. We stayed in a 3 bedroomed villa and it was great. Very spacious and clean, much bigger than I'd expected. The swimming pool was a hit with my boys and the staff at the gym were lovely.
The site is looking very shabby and there were lots of maintenance issues with out bungalow. The children's play area has been closed for several years now and use of the gym is no longer included. We won't be staying here again.
Very quiet place. Nothing to do for kids. Gurnard pines very disappointed. The only thing I can say that was nice was the accommodation with the hot tub. Glad I didn't book one without the hot tub, they looked awful.
We had a fantastic stay. All the staff we met were helpful and friendly. The acomodation was ideal for the price we paid. The swimingpool and othet facilities were all good to. Excellent location an easy drive from all the major attractions.
The lodges themselves are quite tatty but clean. We had a hole in the front door at the bottom where wood had rotted away. Staff not particularly interested. Thankfully was warm weather. Central heating worked well in the bedrooms. The site and surroundings was great with the lodges all situated round a field where kids could play safely and the facilities on site part of the ' cowes club' which is used by locals. Hence, gym, swimming pool, soft play and restaurant all good quality. Despite the tatty lodge would definitely stay again ( just not in winter) as excellent location and good facilities
We used the site purely as a base. Facilities were limited and outdated, the whole place looked run down.
really dark trying to find the place when we arrived. Lights and fuses blew when we first switched the lights on. Mattress on double bed was sooooo worn we could feel the springs through it. the bewd was small, way too hard and the thin mattress was apaulling, we asked for another but was given a quilt to put underneath. indoor heated pool was really cold and the hot tub was too cold on eth last day.
Had a lovely time but accommodation was very dated and not really clean. Curtains hanging off. Hot tub was lovely but very hard to put cover on which was also broken.
Room was clean but had an unusual aroma and a very smelly dishwasher.
On arrival, our oven didnt light. So one of the staff came and looked at the oven - didnt really know what he was doing. Eventually he gave us a lighter so we could manually light the oven. The double bed was broken which we did not discover until late at night. It was the bottom half which was all caved in. We reported this and the oven again to reception. They promised the maintenance man would visit our accomodation and deal with the issues. This didnt happen. We complained again to reception. They then gave us 2 sets of keys to other chalets. We went to look at them and discovered they were in a worse state than our chalet. One chalets oven all the controls were melted and didnt light. One of the chalets all the air vents had been blocked up with tissue. We decided to stick with our original chalet and make the best of a bad situation. The bed situation could easily have been rectified by switching the faulty end with another bed in on of the many unoccupied chalets. The bar closed early every night, which was a disappointment. The whole campsite was looking very tired and dated.
