Stayed in Byre Cottage.
Having the log fire helped on the cold nights after being out all day in cold.
Nice comfortable & cosy

Place was a bit tired looking and the sofa not very comfy but it was clean and well equipped would have no hesitation in going back

The lodge had everything we required for a midweek break. The lodge was very clean, with fresh bedding and towels. The furniture and fittings were basic but practical. Flatscreen TV with built in DVD player in the lounge was welcome. Electricity was pay per unit, leaving a small amount on departure depending on how many units used but this worked out very cheap, cost price I would imagine. Small decking area with a couple of chairs to sit outside. We had our dog with us and the lodges were ideal, plenty of areas for walking. Very secluded and plenty of privacy from other lodges, but close enough to Castle Douglas for supplies etc.

The lodge was basic but clean. It had everything you needed in the kitchen. It would have been nice to have had a couple of chairs on the decking outside.
Lovely time had by all

The lodge was nice, I liked the location as I like rural and quite places, however I wasn't happy that all the pot's, pan's, cutlery, glasses and cup's needed washing as they hadn't been washed.... I also had to clean the bed my 2yr old was going to sleep in as that too was dirty.
The kettle leaked which could of ended bad if i'd not of noticed, electricity and water YEAH not a good mix..... the vacuums ''on / off'' button didn't work you had to hold it in when vacuuming, that is also not easy when you are heavily pregnant.
The ''conservatory furniture'' wasn't very comfortable, especially when your 8mths pregnant, so I was in a lot of pain and the bed wasn't any better.

There are a lot of nice touches such as towels and tea towels plus a vase of flowers but compared to a useless tin opener and a blunt 'sharp' knife, a chair in the living room with screws missing and unsafe outdoor chairs didn't really so much. It's a lovely site but needs money spending on what are potentially health and safety hazards. When we saw someone about the living room chair it was sorted immediately and without comment. When we told a different member of staff about the garden chair being unsafe we were surprised to be told "it all needs to be replaced, I've finished for the day". So, we left a note on the day we went home.

Had a wonderful holiday. As a base in the area, queenshill lodges are perfect, so much locally to do with a young family, cocoa bean factory, farm parks, beautiful beaches, Threave estate. The lodges have all the basic amenities. This is our 4th year in the lodges and will no doubt be back again.

Fantastic holiday in beautiful surroundings. Very peaceful. Clean, well equipped lodges. Gave an 8 for the furniture and fittings just because the beds were a little too firm for our liking. But we will definitely return and recommend Queenshill to our friends. It's a hidden gem.

We loved it here but as mentioned by previous reviewers the furniture really is incredibly uncomfortable. It is the only thing that would put me off returning. If I were to come back and to those of you booked to go - take extra cushions/pillows for the sitting room and a quilt to put under you on the double bed. I am okay with a hard bed but this was unbearable.

Finding the site was a bit of a nightmare in the pitch black at night but when I phoned the number on the booking form the woman that answered was extremely helpful and got us on our way. This was, however, the only time we had contact with staff during our stay. The 'check in' notice was hanging in the unattended reception with a note stating where our lodge was and the key was in the door there. Similarly we were given a note to work out what we owed for the electricity (about £20 for four nights in early winter) and to leave that and the key on the table in the lodge when departing. The lodge was quite lovely inside and well equipped for our self catering needs. The only issue was the seating in the lounge area - it was sooo uncomfy! The bed however was quite comfy. The site itself is in the middle of nowhere so a car is necessary for getting around to do any shopping or sight seeing. There are plenty of places to walk dogs although it is stressed to keep your pooch on the leash as there are farm animals around and cats on site. If going in the darker months i would strongly suggest taking a torch if you are planning on roaming around at night or walking dogs. The site has no light other than that from the cabins and cottages.
Clean,comfortable and very,very peaceful!!! Ticketyboo.10 out of 10.
Never met anyone, just a note left pinned on a notice board in an unmanned reception. We had no one to ask about the surrounding area, we felt the details of what is accessible within walking distance were not accurate.
Fantastic if you like walks and looking at beautiful landscapes
The lodge did have a foisty smell when we arrived, however the place was clean. Although the furniture was uncomfortable and the tv was very small. The whole place could have done with a bit of modernisation just to really create a more relaxing and welcoming environment - I'm not complaining however, everything was functional.
Cooking facilities were great and we could even have washed clothes had we brought detergent.
The lodge was warm with reliable hot water and although compact it felt spacious to us.
The settings are simply beautiful we couldn't have asked for anything prettier, the woodland that surrounds the lodge is stunning and a great place to spot wildlife.
There is plenty to do around the area with great beaches, and areas of interest to visit.
We will definitely return to queenshill we had an amazing break away.
we had a great time, excellent location , very peaceful, Did not see any staff to comment

Great value for money, lovely location + spotlessly clean. The only improvements i'd suggest are new upholstery on the sofa + chairs + new pillows on the bed. Other than that it was a comfortable stay! The bird feeder was a lovely touch + there was plenty of space for the kids to run around.
stayed in area a few years ago and wanted to return. cottages in ideal location with various attractions in both directions. area countryside was stunning to say least and the walking was superb made much better by the different historical references from robert bruce to ammunition factories. there was so much to see and do, well recommended.

Lovely setting, very peaceful, lucky to have excellent weather in October, and a brilliant view of the eclipse.

Great location if you want it quite and peaceful. Nothing nearby unless you went in car or in our case cycled.
If you want peace and quiet, this is for you !
The perfect "Get away from it All" location.
The lodge was very well appointed and spotlessly clean in every respect......... Superb !!!
We will definitely be returning, without a doubt.
Well done Queenshill, keep up the good work.
The cabin was very clean and comfortable and set in beautiful surroundings.

After reading other reviews we were expecting it to be peaceful, it certainly was, so relaxing, just what we needed.
Wonderful surroundings, the walled garden was very relaxing to sit in amongst some beautiful flowers. The lodge was very clean when we arrived and the fresh flowers on the table smelt lovely. The owner called to see if everything was ok on the first evening and she gave us some tips on places to visit. She explained where she lived and said to contact her if we needed anything. Our two dogs thoroughly enjoyed the stay, less than 20 meters and they were in the woods. Plenty of wild life, even saw a deer about 200 meters into the woods from the lodge. Beautiful coastline to explore. We can't wait to return, May try one of the cottages at the rear of the lodges next time. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.

Famed for its rugged coastline, lovely beaches, forests and wild moorland as much as for its ancient castles and charming little towns, this corner of South West Scotland provides a delightful backdrop to our holiday parks in Kirkcudbrightshire. The inviting coastal village of Creetown is perhaps best known for its country music festival and as the setting for the cult film, The Wicker Man (there’s a 12 ft high model of him among many other fascinating exhibits in the Creetown Heritage Museum). And there’s a magical thrill in visiting a castle you can only by reach by boat. Threave Castle sits on a small island in the River Dee, and in another part of this great estate, Threave Gardens should please keen gardeners – both are easily accessible from our holiday parks in Kirkcudbrightshire. For something different, take a Tongland Tour – a guided visit to a beautiful art deco power station that includes a walk over the hydroelectric dam and its fish ladder. And no caravan holidays in Kirkcudbrightshire would be complete without a trip to the pretty town of Kirkcudbright itself – the Old Jail, the Tolbooth Art Centre and MacLellan’s Castle, set overlooking the wharves on the River Dee, all invite exploration.
