Great houses and castles are a feature here – Bowhill House in Selkirkshire boasts a particularly fine art collection and Thirlestane Castle is one of the seven ‘Great Houses of Scotland’, and there are many more to explore when you enjoy lodge holidays in Edinburgh and the Borders.

But, undoubtedly, Edinburgh is the main attraction. Compact and beautiful, the heart of the city is a delightful blend of towering medieval buildings in the Old Town and the elegance of the Georgian New Town, and soaring above it all the massive splendour of the castle.
