Recently stayed here from Mon-Fri and thankfully we managed to get a decent price for the lodge. A week after and it would of more than doubled the price.
When we arrived we put all of our food in the fridge to find out a few hours later that it didn't work. Therefore most of our food was wasted as it was mostly frozen and fresh meat and dairy. We tried to contact the staff but managed to get no signal at all in the grounds which isn't helpful or safe...
After walking to the cafe and using their phone we managed to get the fridge sorted. Minus the food.
The room was decent needs a bit of a deep clean and re-vamp.. Such as new couch as it was leather and some noticeable and unappealing scuffs on the rather hard couch.
When it came to trying to cook the multi cooker was rather annoying as it turned itself off. Along with hardly any room to prepare a meal as there was no sideboard due to the tiny amount of space.
I don't think the chestnut lodge vip are very suitable for couples or families who wish to cater for themselves appropriately.
The lack of signal is rather dangerous, if any serious incident occurs you have no signal to contact staff.. (This wasn't just down to your phone procvider many other holiday makers had the same problem) And staff leave the reception at 2pm.. After staying here on two occasions I doubt I would stay in the chestnut lodges again as they are too small.
Although it is a nice area, a ten minute train ride to York and local shops near by. We obviously caught them at a bad time.
Lovely surroundings and everything you need is included or nearby.
Great location and lovely place to stay given the weather
Fab location, beautiful lodges !!
Great stay, nice, clean accommodation
Overpriced and far from luxurious. The walls were so thin you could hear the clink of cutlery when the neighbours were eating. Very disappointed.
The bed was very uncomfortable!! To say I paid £50 for my dog there was no extras for him to stay!! Also the gardens need fencing off probably with a gate so staff can enter still, my dog had to stay in why we was in the hot tub which wasn't fair, as it was his holiday too!
Good but not luxury. The onsite bar could be improved with outside music. Better food and friendly staff. Onsite shop could be better stocked and you would think they would open full days when they are busiest on weekends. Some lightbulbs out. Knife in the knife block had a broken handle. Just needs some attention to detail.
Staff were very polite and helpful, when we arrived there was only one chair for sitting outside on which staff quickly sorted. We enjoyed spending time on the lake fishing and the wife caught her first carp which has now got her hooked on fishing and can`t wait to go back. Would we go again yes, as we have already booked again for October.
see you soon

We stayed in the birch lodges, they were great, clean & had what you needed. We will definitely go back, the kids loved it & my husband loved the fishing lake. You are very Central & surrounding places are not far
Lovely relaxing stay, with really polite and helpful staff. Could not fault it at all.
Couldn't rate this place any higher, we had a fantastic week here and will be booking again for next year! Loved it
Had a lovely week in a Chestnut Vip lodge with my boyfriend. The lodge was lovely and we enjoyed going for a walk around the lakes. There was also a BBQ in our garden so we used that twice during the week. We will definitely be back again!
Fantastic all round
Woderful relaxing break only critism is could benifit from a shop for food etc but staff and surroundings first class totally enjoyed our stay
