cabin was nice, site was pretty but covered in dog dirt, we took our little dog with us as it had free kennels but the kennels where just a concrete shed with a padlocked door so wouldn't use them. The owner is very strange and quite abrupt.
Had the best week staying here. Family if 4 with a toddler and a 14 month old, lodge was perfect for us and very well equipped. Surroundings were beautiful and felt like we were in the middle of nowhere yet walk out the gates an you've access to all amenities so no need to use our own transport. I had read negative reviews regarding the noise of trains passing, yes we heard them but certainly never disturbed by them. My son was delighted he could play on the decking and watch trains. So much to do in the city, hail rain or shine we'd never be bored. Although we were very lucky and got a week of spring weather. Beautiful quiet site, would defiantly recommend it and will defiantly be back!
As long as you realise that its surrounded by a housing estate and that the train line is close by before you leave (neither of which where an issue to us) then its a great base from which to explore with the benefit of having a beautiful setting to enjoy when you are at the lodge. Great location for York with supermarket and Bus less than 5 min walk away so no need to use the car. If you are looking for a City based holiday thats quiet and reasonably secluded (except for occasional train) then you wont go far wrong.
Really good break in pleasant surroundings would be even better in summer
wonderfull we loved it,we would definately stay there again, the staff are lovely, the lodge was lovely and clean, very happy all round ,thank you .
I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the lodge due to how cheap the package was. It had everything I needed for my stay. A perfect way to relax.
Great little haven. Will definitely return.
It was our family "Xmas" treat & it even snowed for us . Brill! Only 1 complaint ,no dvd player, which we think would be good for cold times,& cosy nights in. Been in log-cabins lots ,& always had one before.Didn't spoil our time as we bought one at the near-by Tesco ,just a stone's throw away. Just a suggestion. Had a wonderful time.
We arrived for Valentines weekend and was greeted by the owner at the secure gates, we drove up to the lodge in the most beautiful setting, a large lake surrounded by trees and the ground covered in snowdrops. The lodge was warm and cosy, it had everything we needed and we loved the welcoming tea tray also the flowers on the table. We didn't use our car very much as the bus service was excellent with the bus stop five minutes away. Tesco superstore was also very close which was ideal. The walk around the Lake was lovely, had we have taken our dogs it would have been perfect, no traffic to worry about as the only vehicles permitted are those used by the lodge occupants with a maximum speed limit of 10 mph. Only two miles from the city centre you would have thought the trains and traffic sounds would have caused a problem but they did not they were hardly noticeable and this made the place very secluded peaceful and relaxing. We will definitely be returning.
A little oasis just outside york.
Wonderful location , and will definitely be returning in the future!
SUPERB - would definitely go back again Neal and all the staff were lovely. The cottage is superb so well equipped, they even provided a xmas tree!
Nice location close to York and all ameneties. Some train noise but didnt cause any problems for us at all.
On arriving we were meet at the gate to be informed how to use it and asked not to drive more than 10 miles an hour about three times! Not the nicest of welcomes. The lodge was cold on arrival however looked nice. We were looking forward to a nice bath after our journey however the water was cold as the boiler had blown. It took an hour and a half to have this fixed bot great for the first evening!! When fixed you had enough got water to paddle in the bath very unimpressed. The lodge was adequate however no DVD and just basic TV no satellite. Shame you had to pay for wifi and no hair dryer!! Good location but we would stay elsewhere as the owner was not very welcoming.
we enjoyed our stay at lakeside, it was only a 2 mile pleasent walk into york.
We would definatley stay at the lodge in the summer but not october onwards. The lodge was very cold even though the heating was on.The electric rate was also too high, we spent just short of £7.00 in 2 days.
