Railway Cuttings melds traditional with contemporary to make it the perfect location for those wishing to get away and unwind. This elegant stone-built, semi-detached, single-storey cottage is situated at Falstone Station. Along with the owner’s home it is one of only a few cottages at this location, which was once part of the former Border Counties Railway line. The line has long gone but reminders of the route that linked England with Scotland are still there. It is only 520 yards from the local pub serving real ale and good food. Opposite the pub is a small tea room/shop in this pretty village of Falstone. The cottage has one double and one twin bedroom and sleeps four people in an elegant style. The underfloor heating will keep you comfortable whatever the time of year. The décor is contemporary and comfortable with a kitchen area that has everything you’ll need to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing.
Railway Cuttings is situated inside the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. Its lack of light pollution makes it one of the best areas in Britain to enjoy the sky at night. Use binoculars to marvel at the Milky Way; enjoy the Northern Lights or perhaps you’ll be lucky and glimpse a spectacular meteor shower. For those who want to make the most of their ’Dark Sky’ stay, a visit to the Kielder Observatory is a must but book ahead to guarantee a time that suits you best. One of the big attractions of holidaying in this area of rural Northumberland is the range of activities so close at hand. Its close proximity to Kielder Water makes it a must-visit for walkers, sailors and cyclists. Nearby Leaplish has a swimming pool and spa open to visitors, and the on-site pub and restaurant is handy for those wishing to make a day of it. And for those who just want to enjoy the countryside, its south facing views overlook the North Tyne river and the nearby rolling hills. The historic town of Hexham is only 25 miles and Bellingham has lots of useful amenities such as a bank, post office and shops, and is only 9 miles away. The Northumberland Heritage Coast makes a great day out and is within easy driving distance so you can experience all parts of this unspoilt, diverse county. Shop, pub and restaurant 520 yards.
Railway Cuttings can be booked together with The Left Luggage Office (ref CC325019), 10 yards away, to accommodate up to 6 guests.

Despite the weather, we had a wonderful time. Cozy pubs and eating places, ospreys and many other birds to spot. Walks in the forest and along Hadrian's Wall with the dog. Relaxing break and a helpful host!

Such a wonderful place to relax . Spotless accommodation. Alex & Tom are brilliant hosts. Enjoyed our walks from the doorstep and also around Kielder Forest. The local pub & tea shop served great food and everyone is so friendly. It was great to be able to take Lexie our Old English Sheepdog puppy in both and she was spoilt rotten. Will definitely pay a return visit and hopefully the night skies will clear so we can see the stars.

Superb Cottage - very well equipped. Alex the owner is lovely and everyone else we me very helpful about walks etc. Very dog friendly and the Blackcock pub was lovely (also dog friendly) and only a few minutes walk from the cottage. Star gazing from cottage was wonderful. We did have amazing weather which really helped. Little touches in cottage like washing up liquid, tea towels, dishwashing tablets etc were another plus. Be aware almost no phone signal...but wi-fi in cottage and pub helped.

This is a fantastically presented and equipped cottage in a blissfully quiet location. Our only quibbles: the double bed was a little small and the mattress way too soft for us; and the local “shop” struggled to meet that description! That said, the local pub was great, the surroundings cannot be bettered and the host is knowledgeable, professional and on hand without being intrusive. We don’t hesitate to recommend it.
