Beautiful location and views from the cottage. Rather old fashioned decor and bathroom. There is WiFi which is good, we would revisit so all in all a positive

The high scores are for location. The cottage is outdated, the bathroom needs upgrading, furniture is well-worn, and the carpets are industrial. We rented for 4 nights. In all other cottages we have rented over the past 10 years, items such as dishwashing liquid and toilet paper were supplied to cover the time. Also when leaving other cottages, items would be left for other renters such as coffee, tea, toilet paper, oil, etc. This place was empty except for salt and pepper. While it might be easy for those living in the UK to bring their kitchens with them; those from outside the country would have to spend and lug and we did not have a car. All in all, high prices for a roll of toilet paper.

We have stayed in the village many times since the early 1990s but have never stayed in this property. We would certainly stay here again although probably out of season as we always have done because it can be a busy area. The cottage is well equipped, warm and easy to access/park, fine for dogs and a gate at the rear. Shared access at the rear but no one was staying next door when we were there. This is probably the only property in the village where you can sit in the lounge and watch the waterfall!

This cottage is in the most beautiful village and location, the waterfall is ever changing and best location in the village. It is spacious and clean, the beds were comfy and bed linen fresh so overall ticked the most important boxes. The walls seemed freshly painted white so the overall feel was bright. The downside is that it really needs updating and adequate seating for 4. There is also a smell of damp that lingers throughout the house. Some bulbs needed replacing and, with the dog, the absence of the gate at the top of the steps was inconvenient. Also the freezer was frozen solid. What would be useful would be a coat stand in the lounge as we used that entrance and perhaps a boot scraper outside? All in all we had no cause to complain at all as the house is equipped perfectly, just wanted to be honest

We were 4 adults and for us this is a gem of a cottage, tucked away at the edge of the attractive village of West Burton and with a view directly over the Cauldron Falls and a packhorse bridge. There are a butchers, pub, general shop and café across the village green and plenty of walks near to hand. It has a comfortable lounge and reasonable kitchen upstairs (though difficult to sit 4 to eat without blocking access to the fridge - plan ahead!), then 2 pleasant bedrooms with comfortable beds, storage and a small bathroom downstairs. If I'm being picky the bathroom was starting to look in need of a bit of TLC, although it was quite functional. The lounge has a door out to a terrace garden (with seat) that gets the sun and has open access down stone steps to the road, parking space and river. We loved it but not sure it would have been so relaxing with small children. There are a few things I'd take if going again - a wooden spatula to use with the non-stick frying pans for instance, a bigger bath towel (the towels provided are lovely quality but not bathsheet size) and some games or similar - no internet access, variable mobile signal and limited TV channels meant I got through the books we'd taken quite quickly. Leyburn fortunately has charity shops. We were there in early September and the bedrooms were starting to feel a bit chilly - the storage heaters fixed that, but we did need them on some nights. Upstairs was fine, though in winter you might need the electric heater in the lounge which we didn't need to try. Overall we hd a lovely week and would be very happy to go back.

Superb location- no need to drive anywhere for shade/sunshine and water to paddle in. Because the nearest supermarkets are about 20 minutes away in Leyburn or Hawes, you need to remember to bring the food you need. No drying facilities (like a rotary clothes line) and no gate to stop the dog wandering off into the carpark. The cottage is upside down, so the best views are from the lounge. Comfy and cosy. No wi-fi, but next door (No. 2 Waterfall cottages) has it.

The cottage has a lovely view of the waterfall and when we were there the weather was really hot so it was ideal for taking the dog across to let him cool down. Because the weather was so good we wanted to sit out in the garden but the garden furniture was terrible. One of the benches was so rotten it was a worry to sit on as we felt it could give way at any moment and the other bench is not much better. The garden is just overgrown plants interspersed with giant weeds in the beds, and growing through the slabs that make up the sitting area. The garden is not enclosed and they do say that in the information but it is definitely worth noting as it is up some steep concrete steps. The cottage itself was nice and clean and perfectly comfortable however I did note that there were four beds to sleep in but only three easy chairs for lounging on in the evening.
