This charming characterful Grade II listed cottage opens its front door onto the open veranda corridor once having many small feet running along to get to class on time.\nAbacus House boasts a very high specification with a modern stylish kitchen and bathroom but manages to retain its quirky stylish twists throughout. A large open plan living area leads through to a dining area still housing the characterful open grate arts and crafts fireplace and then to the kitchen with its large feature windows throughout letting the light flood through the whole of the ground floor. A staircase leads to an upper floor with its fun and interesting layout including a bed and bathroom along with a seating area complete with cushions to relax on and enjoy the view from the school windows.\nSet within the beautiful area of Matlock you are within easy reach of one of the most stunning parts of the Peak District. The closest attractions are Matlock and Matlock Bath giving the opportunity to explore the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver’s Kingdom accessed via cable car and offering spectacular views of the Derwent Valley. From here you can tour the network of caverns and passageways or walk over 60 acres of woodland hillside. This is an ideal base from which to explore the region’s attractions including the magnificent stately homes. The beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are an absolute must see or visit the picturesque villages of Bakewell and Ashover Cardale in TV’s ‘Peak Practice’ which are both close by. Excellent walking can be found from the doorstep plus activities at Carsington Water including sailing windsurfing canoeing and cycling plus excellent birdwatching in the surrounding areas. Fabulous cottage for a couple and dog. Really well equipped best we have ever been in. We wanted for nothing. Bed very comfortable, bathroom modern and spacious. Well equipped kitchen, large fridge and freezer. Garden at the back of no 12 wants cutting back prevents sitting out at the back of Abacus, but the bench on the front is great for watching the world going by. Plenty of places to visit Bakewell,Chatsworth,Chesterfield,Sheffield parks and museums,Matlock, Matlock bath, Crich and many more Would recommend to anyone visiting this beautiful area. Many thanks for sharing this lovely property with us.

Beautiful cottage with lovely period features and a unique mezzanine level with dual aspect windows. Excellent facilities and decor. Short walk to shop/pubs/restaurant. Beautiful countryside only a few minutes walk in every direction.

Abacus house is a gem. It is just as illustrated and the neighbours are friendly to visitors (not always the case in a residential area). The owner was present and helpful on arrival - it's good to have that personal contact. The area speaks for itself as it is in a wonderful open and picturesque part of the country. I would certainly consider a second visit.

Abacus house was very clean and well-equipped. It was spacious and comfortable. We loved the mezzanine style bedroom! The school related touches were nice too and added to the stay. It was easy to find off the main road. We really enjoyed taking our baby to Abacus House for his first holiday!
