Fabulous property, very well maintained. Games room and large jacuzzi add to the enjoyment. Loads of dog walks, just off the trans pennine way. We went cycling, kayaking, hiking, tried archery and visited lots of local attractions and pubs. Great place for families or groups to chill out for a few days.

Beautiful property, with extremely high quality fixtures and fittings, only draw back was the rules and regs, although I could totally understand the rationale, and that not all visitors are respectful of the house and gardens, we found some of the notifications intimidating and felt very on our guard and at times were unable to relax and enjoy the property.

An absolutely brilliant house in a really great location. The spacious house is immaculate, very well equipped and Lisa was super helpful with any questions we had. The location was perfect for our weeks holiday - 2 families with children ranging from ages 4 to 12. The Trans Pennine way was a short walk away which we used most days for walking or cycling. There were a number of other great walks from the doorstep too. We also had some lovely local days out - all less than a 20 minute drive away (Yorkshire sculpture park, puzzle woods and Langsett reservoir)

My family and I stayed at Aitken House recently in order to celebrate a 60th birthday. We comprised of 7 adults, 2 children and 1 large dog! The house is beautiful; so well maintained and incredibly presented. Despite being a large group the house felt spacious and there was enough room for us all to be together when we wanted to be, but equally enough room for us to have our own space when necessary! Yes, there do seem to be a lot of rules signposted around but once you are in the house it's quite easy to understand why the owners want to make every effort to keep it looked after. We were very lucky with the February weather and were able to make full use of the hot tub, which was a great treat! The house is quite easy to find and in close proximity to lots of great things to do. We particularly enjoyed the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Holmfirth and Langsett Resevoir - all of which are within a 20 minute drive. Thanks to Lisa and her partner for allowing us to enjoy your wonderful home.

The house itself was nice and quite spacious, although the location is quite remote so if you're looking for restaurants etc you're quite limited and would be driving a tad. Now, the owner, when it came to checking out she was incredibly rude to us, speaking to us as if we were kids. She threatened to keep our deposit if we didn't separate the odd packet of crisp from the wrong bin bag. We then put the bags in the bin which she checked after and kicked off about one little piece of rubbish in the wrong bag. Rather than quickly dealing with it herself, she kicked off and started shouting and made us take the bags, bare in mind there was 8 full bin bags, in our cars to bin elsewhere. I would recommend this only to those who would barely be in house as the owner seemed to have an issue with house actually being used.

Although a bit concerned regards all the rules and the bond required, DON'T, let this put you off. The house is absolutely beautiful with everything you will need for a holiday. The hot tub was thoroughly cleaned every morning ready for use every day. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage/ house

Had a great weekend trip with friends & all our children. Some great family activities locally & the hot tub is a bonus to the house- something we always look forward too (Although it loses heat quite quickly). House is done to a great standard & has everything you could wish for. We would definitely like to return.

Aitken House is wonderful, we stayed with 7 adults and 3 babies and there was plenty of room for everyone’s needs. The kitchen was fantastically equipped, the beds very comfortable and the hot tub was a lovely treat. Lisa, the house owner, was very helpful with recommendations on where to eat / happy to help with any questions throughout! We would definitely stay again.

This house is fantastic, very impressive and definitely 5 star. We loved everything about it, as a family of 7 adults, 3 children, one baby and three dogs, there was ample space for us all and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The only downside for me was the very strict rules imposed. I do understand there has to be rules as not everybody is thoughtful and mindful about making mess and the owners wish to maintain their 5 star rating. However all over the house are rule notices and I found it hard to relax, I found myself constantly on edge in case anybody made even a slight mess, in case one of the children dropped a sweet wrapper or if somebody didn't rinse a cup after themselves for example. This included being instructed not to make noise outside so as not to disturb the next door neighbor which with three children and three dogs isn't easy. There were rules about fines if bedclothes or towels were stained with makeup or whatever and to be honest I felt a lot of it was unnecessary as most people are decent and have respect for other people's property. I feel if you are going to hire out a property to people for self catering, then you have to expect and accept that some people will not leave it as tidy as others and I feel the rules need to be relaxed somewhat.
