• About Amberleigh

Set in the heart of a pretty village lying between the majestic North Yorkshire Moors and the lovely Dales, this beautifully furnished single storey barn conversion makes a superb holiday base. The wonderful annexe, holidng two of the bedrooms, is located just 6 yards away from the main property. Boasting a hot tub in its private, Italian style garden with lawned area and country views, it sits just 100 yards from a village pub serving good food. Nearby, at the foot of the Hambleton Hills, the traditional market town of Thirsk, 4 miles, is renowned as the ‘Darrowby’ of the James Herriot books (an interesting museum has now been created from the former veterinary practice) and is also home to a famous racecourse and a cinema. Children especially will love a day out at the Monk Park Farm centre, and the nearby Birds of Prey and Conservation Centre is well worth a visit as is Sion Hill Hall, a neo-Georgian masterpiece built by the ‘Lutyens of the North’. Rievaulx Abbey, Flamingo Land theme park, Eden Camp, Pickering and Castle Howard are all within easy reach and the fascinating city of York is a mere 25 miles distant. Shops 4 miles, pub serving food 100 yards.

Amberleigh cottage was the perfect place to stay. We had deer in the fields and birds in the trees. Great location. Lovely pub across the road as well. The hosts were excellent. Already booked to stay again.

Great location for visiting local attractions, Helmsley is lovely and there are great walks nearby. We were unable to get a taxi into Thirsk or Helmsley but we were staying weekdays maybe weekends there might be more availability. The local pub is open all day on fri/sat/sun only. We were well stocked up! But it’s handy to know

Fantastic cottage, we had a great family holiday here. Everyone was happy from the youngest (4) to the oldest (66). We all enjoyed the hot tub and the children especially loved watching the deer in the near by field. The cottage has everything you need and is in a very peaceful location. We all enjoyed a walk around Thirsk especially on market day. Thank you for a great base for our holiday.

This was a return family visit to celebrate a milestone birthday. It was just as it had been - immaculate, well equipped and private.

Amberley House was such a lovely house, the two separate living spaces would make it perfect for a family sharing holiday. The cleanliness was brilliant we where very impressed. The hot tub was a fantastic extra. Located in a very quiet private area with a view of countryside although it was close to the main road it didn’t disturb us and the house is well contained so would be perfect for families with small children as it would be very safe. We stayed for my 40th birthday celebration weekend and it was perfect for this we went to York for the day for cocktails etc and got a taxi to the train station in nearby Thirsk and got the train to and from York which had plenty of departures. The only downside was no local little shop for any essentials we had forgotten. The local pub was across the road from the house and served lovely food. There where plenty of takeaway restaurants in Thirsk too but unfortunately they did not deliver apart from the kebab shops. We had a fantastic weekend and couldn’t have asked for more from the house and owners. Would definitely recommend staying.

Loved this cottage; location, size and cleanliness. BUT it needs a couple of tweaks / updates. The fridges are poor and for a cottage sleeping 8, a large, good quality fridge is a must. Secondly, the WiFi is very poor, perhaps this is the village and not the property, regardless it was very poor. Thirdly, a Bluetooth music dock / speaker would be a great addition. The current portable CD player is not keeping up with the times. Finally, the property has old style Venetian blinds on the windows, these look dated and are not good at keeping the light out of bedrooms. I must reiterate that these are tweaks, the cottage is lovely and I would definitely visit again.

We had a wonderful time at Amberleigh - the owners were lovely and came every day to check everything was okay and clean the hot tub. Great location with lots to do in the surrounding area. The cottage was lovely - very spacious and well equipped, and was very clean. We all loved the hot tub - especially the kids! The pub just down the road was very handy and the kids loved the games room. Little touches like board games and a box of chocolates were very welcome! Would definitely recommend Amberleigh!

We had a fantastic stay at Amberleigh. It was ideal for a large group of friends to socialise and catch up for the weekend. Convenient location close to Thirsk and beautiful surrounding countryside and villages. I would highly recommend.

This was our second visit to Amberleigh because we enjoyed it so much in 2018. If you enjoy walking, it's an ideal spot, surrounded by the Yorkshire Dales. The property is lovely; unfortunately we had no heating for 24 hours due to a problem with the boiler. The owner provided 2 free standing heaters, which were adequate for the main house but the annex became very cold. It also meant we had nowhere to dry swimsuits/towels. Still, as a group of 8 ladies, we had a great weekend.
