Ardbeg is a single-storey cottage set in its own delightful garden and enjoys magnificent views across open countryside. Situated on the owners’ 600-acre working sheep and beef farm, it has miles of lovely walks through the surrounding countryside, taking in hills, lochs and river along the way. Ardbeg is completely secluded within its own landscaped and picturesque gardens, yet is easily accessible and just a 10-minute drive to the centre of Thurso. The cottage has a very spacious, bright and modern kitchen/dining room, with built-in appliances and a large dining table for up to eight guests. The living room is a real delight. With a feature wood burner and large picture windows that drink in the amazing views across open hills and countryside, it is a wonderful place to relax after a day’s sightseeing or outdoor activities. A small conservatory off the hall leads out to the gardens, with outdoor dining facilities. This is an ideal cottage for families, couples and groups who appreciate a very good standard of accommodation in a quiet countryside location.

The adjoining land is a haven for wildlife, encouraged by the farming owners, who have created an official nature reserve, with loch and walks recognised by the RSPB. Roe deer graze in the fields and numerous birds can be spotted in the area. There is a lovely path adjoining the cottage that meanders through the countryside to the River Forss. Permits to fish for trout and salmon are available in season. The coast around this area is also renowned for its bird and sea life. Puffins, great skua, otters, seals, dolphins and whales are all seen here.

The town of Thurso, just 4 miles away, is steeped in history. Built by the Vikings and added to over the centuries, it now offers visitors a fascinating mix of ancient and modern. The Caithness Horizons visitor centre is well worth a visit. Local facilities also include a swimming pool, leisure centre, cinema, boating lake, quad biking, sailing and a good selection of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants. There is a wide variety of sports and activities in the region. The renowned surfing beaches of Dunnet and Thurso play host to the world championship surfing competition. The combination of a beautiful rural setting, a superbly appointed and fitted out property, and a lovely garden that hosted an almost constant display of a huge variety of feeding and nesting birds, that could be viewed from every window, made our holiday at Ardbeg quite exceptional. We would highly recommend this lovely holiday cottage.

We had a fabulous time here for a week in May 2019. One of the most beautiful cottages we have stayed in. Everything you need equipment wise, too. The owners are lovely, really helpful and informative, thank you so much for the welcome gift too. The garden gets a lot of different birds which we enjoyed watching and on a short drive we came across a herd of deer. Thank you for letting us use your lovely home.

This cottage was amazing. Could not have asked for more. My sister stayed at another cottage but spent most of her time at ours as the comparison was unreal. We got value for money and some. The kids had a great time. This cottage was a home from home all we needed were clothes. Can’t wait to return.

This is a lovely place to stay, spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything you need. A welcome pack was provided which was much appreciated and logs for the wood burner were also provided. The owners were really helpful and pleasant. This is a great place to stay if you want peace and quiet and also to explore the North Coast of Scotland. We throughly enjoyed our stay. Thanks.

What a fantastic place! Ideal for families and small groups, and we may well go again which we never do! The only negative we could think of (and it was hard) was the local grass cutting company giving us a 7:15 wake up call one morning, other than that the place was faultless, and I’m married to a perfectionist ?
