Ardmhor meaning ’the big high place’ stands on an imposing rise within large walled gardens. The property is elegantly proportioned and retains many period features including decorative cornices centre ceiling roses and handsome marble fireplaces not to mention the impressive staircases and balustrade. It has been renovated yet retains its links to the bygone days with the service bell console remaining in the kitchen – try it out\n\nStranraer is an ideal base from which to explore not only this unspoilt area of Dumfries and Galloway but is within easy reach of the rugged Ayrshire coastline or a day trip to Ireland from the nearby port of Cairnryan. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery there are many beautiful gardens to explore including the world renowned Logan Botanical Gardens.\n\nThe area boasts many pretty little ports such as Sandhead Portpatrick and the RSPB Scotland Mull of Galloway nature reserve where thousands of seabirds nest in the cliff face during the spring and summer. Walking is a delight whether clifftop beaches hills or forests and the Southern Upland Way passes close by. A cyclist’s paradise with the world famous 7Stanes within easy reach.     The house is truly beautiful and close to the shops, beach etc. However, a few things let it down. Simple things, like many missing light bulbs, broken handles on furniture and, despite being reassured that all minor niggles reported by others had been fixed, only one of the two ovens worked properly. Some soap in the bathrooms would have been good and instructions for the hot tub. Beds OK, except the ground floor bedroom. Horribly uncomfortable with springs easily felt. Outdoor bins were full, so we had to leave our rubbish in black bin bags. These are all minor niggles, easily sorted. We would definitely return.

    Beautiful house, beautiful gardens. I love to cook but the oven wasn’t fully functional and didn’t have all the utensils I needed but we got there in the end so can’t complain too much. My only real complaint is about the hot tub it should have been maintained or instructions left to fill up and add any chemicals, by the third day we couldn’t use it any more so was a bit disappointed about that. Overall all a great weekend thanks!

    Plenty space for 8 Adults and 4 children. WALKING DISTANCE to beach parks, pubs, shops, super markets and swimming pool. Though TV didn't work and a leaking roof the owner aware thought wasn't fixed the time we were there. The family all had a great time and that was the main thing. Easy go book and glad I found it online.

    This house looks amazing on the website, however we found several issues with the house and have photographed these. The front door is the only one with a lock on it,the internal door has evidence of locks previously being on it but these appear to have been removed.Inside the house there is electric plugs not attached to the wall. The hot tub is missing most of its roof and the side panels/curtains missing also rendering it unusable if raining. There was a small hole and crack in one of the front windows. In the back garden there is a stank with a space at the side of it,the dog got her paw and leg caught in this. The bedding was of poor quality and never really fitted the beds particularly in front downstairs bedroom. In the middle floor there was constant debris coming down the chimney and into the bedroom. The top floor was extremely cold despite hall radiator. On the top floor also there is evidence in bedroom that roof has been leaking. The bathrooms were all nice,kitchen was nice and well equipped.We went here as a family with two children aged 8 and 6 also a 10 month old,2 dogs and 8 adults,whilst the house certainly has plenty of room I don’t believe it’s safe for children or should be marketed towards families.

    Great house had a couple of issues on arrival, to be fair where dealt with immediately, the only issue we real had was the standard of the mattress could be doing with being upgraded, as a party of 9 adults we had great use of the house especially the large and accommodating dinning table where we could all sit and eat together also the lounges when football was on the women made use of the other lounge which had sky also for there films, use of hot tub also, so in general had a good family time
