The cottage was very cold when we arrived, we assume it had been empty the previous week as it took a full day to be warm enough to be comfortable, especially the bedroom, despite the log burner and electric heater. It is in a great position, we were aware of the tricky access and this posed no problem for us. The kitchen is sufficiently equipped but some of the pans and utensils were rusted but we found enough for our needs. As has been stated in previous reviews, the cottage is dated and a bit tired looking. While we appreciate the water is by private supply, the shower is abysmal with no force at all behind it. On the plus side, the view is wonderful and we did see a sea otter twice, right outside the window. Over all Artilligan was at best an average cottage so we would not feel able to recommend it.

Prior to our arrival the owner was very friendly on the telephone, informative about the cottage and its location/approach. The cottage had a great location, stunning views of the lock from the lounge and both bedrooms; spacious with comfy beds, warm rooms, spotlessly clean and well equipped. The local shops at Tarbet provided all we needed and the pub/restaurant on the Harbour was even dog friendly. We really enjoyed our holiday in Scotland.

What a lovely place certainly met all our expectations. The cottage itself is wonderful and our bull terrier was very happy. A short drive anywhere but this suits us fine. We like the tranquility. The road noise contrary to a previous review does not make the house shake and we normally live in the countryside and the traffic did not bother us one bit. We will definitely return.

This was our 8th visit with the 9th and 10th already booked. This is a wonderful setting on the shore of the Loch without another living soul for a mile or more. The views across the loch can be quite spectacular. The cottage is warm and comfortable and very spacious. The double bed used to have the most comfortable mattress we have ever experienced, however, this has recently been replaced with a 'memory foam' type mattress which is too hot and nowhere near as comfortable. The cottage has wi-fi connection which is mostly ok. There is a large dog proof garden which our dog loves but there is access to the beach as advertised. The access and egress onto the main road needs a little care. Local amenities (Tarbert and Lochgilphead) are reasonable good and a short drive from the cottage. Most groceries can be acquired from the Co-op supermarket in Lochgilphead which is more than adequate. There are various take-aways in Lochgilphead and Tarbert, none of which we would rave about. It is not possible to walk anywhere from the cottage due to the terrain of the beach to the rear and the busy main road to the front, but there are plenty of other local walks, including along the lovely Crinan canal tow path. We are already looking forward to our return trip.

We stay in approx 10 cottages a year as we are lucky enough to be able to work remotely so have visited in excess of 60 cottages across England, Wales and Scotland in the last 6 years........ The views from this cottage are superb. Yes you can hear the road at times, but we didn't find it particularly busy and with the stunning views and wildlife to focus on didn't find the noise to be a problem. Porpoise, otters, gannets, heron, cormorants, many garden bird varieties and voles, passing boats, all kept us entertained, and the sunset and fantastic clear night skies, including shooting stars....... what more could you ask for! Even in the iffy weather we took some chairs to the old boathouse and was still able to enjoy the scenery and wildlife. The cottage itself is comfortable, if a little dated, but everything you could need for a comfortable stay is provided. Well stocked kitchen, including a slow cooker (which is great if you are going out the for day). Yes the water is discoloured, but not a problem as plenty of drinking water provided for drinks, cooking etc. As mentioned in other reviews the turn into the cottage if coming from Lochgiliphead side is very tight, but absolutely no problem going past the cottage, turning in an open driveway further down the road and turning into the cottage driveway from the Tarbert side. The mirror over the road when driving out of the cottage made that manoeuvre fine too. Owners extremely friendly and helpful when called to get key code etc. Went through everything with us so no surprises on arrival at the cottage. They also responded very quickly to one issue we had. Big thank you for speed of response! Lastly the broadband service. It was fine, which is a pretty big deal for us due to having to work whilst way. Speed was fine. Service did keep dropping off now and then, but we probably only noticed this because we were using it so much, and a quick reset of the router sorted it every time. In fact a newer router would probably fix the problem altogether (we work in the industry so feel able to make this comment). We are looking to move to Scotland in the very near future and wouldn't hesitate living in this beautiful part of the country. We choose cottages for either their location or their interior dependent on the time of year. This one was definitely chosen for its views and outside space and it certainly didn't disappoint! If it ever came on the market wouldn't hesitate to consider it in our search for our home in Scotland and can't give a better review than that! A very special place to relax and unwind and if you choose not to leave during your stay you wouldn't see or hear another human during your time there! Tarbert is prettier than we expected and worth a visit. Crinan Canal also lovely for walking, and we also went to Crinan itself which is where the canal enters the loch, again very pretty - take your camera, some lovely shots.

A lovely touch of having bread, eggs and milk on arrival for you. If you like watching the ocean this is a perfect retreat. We spent many hours watching the sea and on 4 of the evenings we had sightings of the otter (see pictures) plus on 2 occasions we had porpoise swimming by. The location is quiet despite the close proximity of the road. You could easily lock yourself away here. The canal is nearby and is lovely for walking. Crinan is well worth a visit and a sea voyage on the Jenny Wren is highly recommended. Captain Barry provides a personal, informative and entertaining experience.

This is the third year in a row we've chosen to come back to Artilligan Cottage and it never disappoints. The cottage is warm, comfortable, spacious and relaxing and the secure garden is perfect for our dog. Yes, the access and egress from the road can seem a bit daunting but we are yet to encounter any issues and you just have to be a bit careful. And if anything, this is only a minor flaw to what is truly a spectacular location, with the big living room window offering up some of the best lochside scenery one could ask for with seals, otters, harbour dolphins and seabirds gracing you with their presence. We are already planning on returning in 2020.

This cottage is feet away from the main A road . From early morning until evening there is a constant stream of huge timber lorries, tankers delivery trucks, cars, and vans that fly past the cottage . The noise inside is constant. There is small area to sit out at the rear of the building and whilst the view is outstanding it is spoilt by the noise and fumes of the traffic. On a warm day we opened a window and the sound of the road was louder than the TV I was looking forward to hearing the lapping of water whilst having a lie in in the morning . But I was woken up every day at 6.30 with the sound of traffic . We quickly realised that this was only road to the Islands of Islay and Jura and the Kintryre area. The view from the rear of the cottage is outstanding and it was spotlessly clean. But we left in the middle of the week unable to relax with the noise from the road. Also be aware that there is no where to walk from this cottage , the road is too dangerous to walk along with no grass verge .You can get on the shore of the Loch but this consists of large stones and is tricky to walk on . The area is beautiful, but if you are looking for peace and quiet I would suggest you explore of cottage on the canal which was tranquil.

This is our 7th or 8th visit. The cottage has a great setting on the shore of Loch Fyne with wonderful views. It is very spacious, comfortable and warm and reasonably well equipped. The owner has clearly stated that the internet access is intermittent, which it has been in the past. However, on our two weeks, it didn't work at all. It didn't really bother us, but some folk would find this to be inconvenient. Local amenities, mainly in Lochgilphead, are reasonably good and about 8 miles away. It is not really possible to walk along the beach at the rear for any distance, due to the terrain, but there is plenty of walking nearby, including an easy walk along the Crinan Canal tow path which is always worth a visit. The large garden is secure and dog friendly, although there is access to the beach, as advertised. Although we are well used to it, the access and egress from the property on to the main road, directly to the front of the property requires some care. The use of the large garage (unusual in holiday accommodation) is always useful to us for secure storage of fishing gear and a large canoe. In the event of issues/problems (of which there have been few), the owners have always been swift to respond and provide a resolution. We are already booked for Sept 2019 and April 2020.
