Alternative parking is in the car park - a a permit may be obtained for the week which also grants access to other car parks within the borough. There are steep stairs in the cottage not suitable for those with mobility difficulties.\n\nThis Grade II Listed property has the perfect harbourside location- stunning sea views on all 3 floors to the rear while the front door opens onto the High Street of this popular fishing village of Staithes. Ash Cottage is a delightful 200 year old fisherman’s cottage which has recently been restored. The lounge has exposed stonework and a cosy wood burning stove. The first floor bedroom is spacious and with views of the sea and a guest area on the second floor has a day bed but with a steep staircase and no stairgate - young children please be careful. This area can be made more private and cosy simply by closing the folding doors. Seating to the rear overlooking the sea is perfect to enjoy at any time of day and the sandy beach is a mere 5 minute walk away as are the pubs serving food shops cafes and Staithes Heritage Centre and Captain Cook Museum where you may learn about the life and voyages of this famous seaman who spent some of his childhood as an apprentice in Staithes.\n The historic fishing village of Staithes in the North York Moors National Park is probably the most frequently\npainted and photographed in England. Bounded by soaring cliffs or nabs its harbour is still home to an active RNLI station and a small fleet of fishing and leisure boats. It was once the home of a colony of artists the Staithes Group. Its most famous member Dame Laura Knight became the first female fellow of the Royal College of Art.\nA century later art in all its forms is enjoying a revival spurred by a popular annual art and heritage festival. There’s a painted illusion trail which takes you around Staithes’ characteristic ginnels and gardens with gulls mermaids and other visions to trick and delight the eye along the way.\nThere is plenty to entertain the visitors from art galleries quirky shops tea rooms pubs cafes a chocolate shop a butcher art workshops and even a private museum dedicated to the explorer Captain Cook who caught his first glimpse of the sea here as a boy.\n Younger visitors will recognise Staithes as the home of Old Jack’s Boat the popular BBC children’s TV series.\nThere are guided foreshore walks licenced fishing trips while the Cleveland Way which plunges through down through the village\ntakes ramblers and walkers up over the cliffs for spectacular views out to sea. Fish and seafood fans will find the freshest catches from crab lobster squid and fish on sale at the top of the village. " https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/733/840/733700.jpg CC243024

A wonderfully-located cottage in the heart of Staithes village. The back of the property leads out onto the sea wall - about 5 meters from the sea, and the front door leads straight on to the cobbled high street. The butcher's shop is directly opposite which opens for your sausages and bacon (and other, quality meat produce) at 8.30 am - and sells newspapers too! The Cod and Lobster pub is 1 minute away, is always busy and sells a vast selection of gin. The cottage has good internet connection, but the village itself has very little phone coverage. The property is really comfortable with some really tasteful and original decor and artwork, the bedrooms are cozy and really subtly furnished with good, solid furniture and the lounge has a really warm and efficient log burner. The main bedroom, on the 1st floor, stretches the whole length of the cottage (front to back) and has a picture-perfect view, through the rear window, of the sea. The second bedroom, on the third floor again is tastefully decorated and the beds comfortable with a floor-level small window (sea-side) and two Velux windows in the roof. The kitchen is a good size with ample storage, utensils, crockery, dishwasher and good, versatile sink. Overall we loved our stay at the cottage. Staithes is an absolute delight and a great place to relax and recharge the batteries. It has wonderful little walks around the harbour and up into the twisting, narrow paths of the cliff side houses. There's no parking in the village, but at the time that we rented the cottage, there was one free parking space at the top of the (steep) hill - which saved some money. Staithes is a great place to base yourself to discover Yorkshire's stunning east coast and moors with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway offering delightful steam engine trips from Whitby to Pickering, Runswick Bay and Sandsend with their lovely beaches and wonderful Whitby - where the Magpie Cafe serves up 'the best fish and chips in the land'. The Yorkshire coast is truly a wonderful place, and we shall be returning at our earliest opportunity.
