• "Beautiful surroundings with forests, river and countryside walks all waiting to be discovered and savoured..."

These three charming holiday cottages (refs SGD, SAAF and UYN) are located within the extensive grounds of Aswanley, in the River Deveron Valley. All are peacefully set in secluded locations, enjoying uninterrupted views across beautiful scenery and each has a large LCD TV and its own private garden. Visitors are welcome to explore the Aswanley grounds, where there is an abundance of wildlife, with fishing, rough shooting and deer stalking available by arrangement. The proximity to the River Deveron makes the cottages ideal for fly fishing holidays, especially for those trying trout or salmon fly fishing for the first time, and there are deep pools for swimming. Visitors can explore the area on foot or on mountain bikes - the Moray Monster Trails are 20 miles away. The famous Whisky Trail is nearby and many of the distilleries offer guided tours and the chance to sample the local malts - the local inn has a collection of over 700 bottles of finest whisky! Shops 6 miles.

An excellent hideaway for two. However, kitchen equipment is limited with poor kitchen knives, no carving or bread knife, few oven dishes, poor choice of crockery etc but ok if you're not much of a cook. No washing line or pegs or clothes-horse. Very difficult to use hand held bath shower and almost impossible to get a usable temperature. As a DIY renovator I couldn't help but think I would remove the bath and put in a decent shower cubicle with mains pressure ie an in-line pump. Others have commented along the same lines. We would rent again if this was done as we love the area, but the lack of usable bathing facilities is a put-off. I also noted that fishing is quoted at £60 day in the cottage info, but £40 day on the Aswanley website and there is v little detailed info on the fishing (eg catch rates and beats). I would have loved to have had a few days on the river but the weather was adverse. Is it possible to have a days trouting when the river is low, or is it solely salmon fishing? Fishermen need to know about this stuff !!

Lovely location , nice & private & peaceful. Trees blocked the great view but we still had a great time . Sofas & bed could have been better standards /comfort . Very clean. Would benefit from a better bbq or the advert could confirm what type to allow you to have the appropriate supplies with you to use it . Could do with a small table with chairs to eat outside . We recommend going there , it’s a great spot .

Had a great stay at the cottage and it met all of our needs near enough! We wanted somewhere remote with a log fire and got it. The cottage itself is lovely and done up to a great spec, though as others have said, the area around the bath needs some tlc, though this will be because of the nature of the hand held shower. Cost of the electricity was fine as we stayed sensible with our use, and extra logs were £7 a bag. We used a bag per night, but had the fire on from early evening to late and kept the radiators low. Bed was really big and decently comfy. Good TV reception and plenty of channels. Our only issues really were needing to wash most of the dishes before use (the frying pan and glasses were greasy) and fiddling with the shower. We knew it was handheld and fed from the bath so weren't precious about that, but it was a real struggle to get it to an ok temperature. The hot water was very hot, but low in pressure, so adding cold water seemed to only bring cold water through. Raising the shower head up and down changed the pressure and thus the temperature. Was a fine balance of adding the tiniest amount of cold to get a temperature that didn't scald. We mostly made it work, worth noting the bath itself is a really good size so that's also an option.

Everything was great but for the fact they did not tell you you would be charged for electricity and logs. When you rent a cottage you don’t expect to pay extra when you arrive. You get £10 of electricity free which is ok for one night, but be prepared to fork out if you are there for any longer. However if they had said before reading it on arrival then it might soften the blow somewhat. Apart from that it is excellent.

Loved the cottage. If staying longer would be better if there was internet access but otherwise not bothered by that. Would prefer a fenced garden for the dogs. Would stay again, it was peaceful and picturesque.

We loved staying in Jockie Milne’s after our wedding and wish we had more time to spend on it. Only thing was we had an issue with the bathroom. A hook for the shower head would have been handy so we could shower properly and the tap was leaking in the morning. This was fixed once reported however the water was either frozen cold or boiling hot. I got washed there the morning of my wedding so wasn’t the best way to start my wedding day. We would love to come back for a quiet weekend.
