Situated in the heart of Strathyre village, Balvaig Cottage retains its Victorian charm whilst offering all the home comforts for a relaxing holiday. This traditional, detached, red sandstone property dates back to 1897 and features a fitted kitchen and two wood burners. There is excellent internet connectivity and a 40" Freeview TV with Now TV movies package, as well as a DVD player via the Xbox 360, which also includes a selection of games. Upstairs the master bedroom has a kingsize bed and original fireplace, whilst the generous twin bedroom has built-in wardrobe space and window seat.
The property sits in half an acre of well-maintained garden, offering space for children to play and explore, and to sit and enjoy the views towards Glen Ample and watch the birdlife.

The village is well-served by the shop opposite offering all the basics including daily newspapers. The local inn a few yards along the road is the social hub of the village. It offers a warm welcome to all, including children and dogs, and has a good selection of pub grub and guest ales. The café at the south end of the village is well worth a visit and the two hotels are open to non-residents for meals and refreshments.

The property is ideally located to explore the surrounding Trossachs National Park and beyond by foot, bike or car. The Sustran UK Route 7 runs past the car park opposite and provides a dedicated cycleway and footpath to Callander to the south and Glenogle and Killin to the north, following the route of the old Callander and Oban railway. Step through the gate at the bottom of the garden and you are on the Rob Roy Way, the long distance footpath following many of the routes used by the notorious outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor in the 17th and 18th centuries. For the more adventurous, some of Scotland’s best hill walking is within easy reach including the munros Stuc a Chroin, Ben Vorlich and Ben Lawyers. Loch Lubnaig, a mile south, and its tributary the Balvaig River, offer fishing and canoeing.

Local attractions include Rob Roy’s grave in the pretty village of Balquidder, 4 miles, the Falls of Leny, the bustling towns of Callander and Killin, and the Falls of Dochart 9 miles north. From the Trossachs Pier, 16 miles, daily steam ships cruise up and down Loch Katrine. Doune Castle, 17 miles, is a must for Monty Python fans, and 3 miles further on is the Argarty Red Kite Centre.

Further afield, Stirling, 25 miles, is dominated by the impressive castle and The Wallace Monument, whilst for rugged spectacular Scottish landscapes, Glencoe, an hour’s drive to the north, is hard to beat as well as offering skiing in winter. Glasgow, 50 miles, and Edinburgh, 60 miles, are served by excellent road connections making them easy destinations for day excursions. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

Disappointing that there was no welcome pack or complimentary wood for the burners. As others have said, needs a good deep clean. We had to clean the fridge due to mold!!! Don't look under the sofa!!!!

The cottage was beautiful and had everything you would need. There are a few places to drink and eat close by with some being within walking distance. There is a shop a few steps from the front door. The garden is huge and very well maintained. Will be returning in the near future.

This is a lovely cottage, spacious yet cosy. Generally well equipped but some soap in the bathroom would have been appreciated. It's about 10 mins drive from callander where there are shops and restaurants - there are few options in strathyre. The cottage was generally clean but is looking tired and a bit grubby now. Probably too many quick wipe rounds between tenants and is ready for a good deep clean. The cottage is on a main road which is fairly busy during the day and quiet at night. But we were not disturbed by traffic at any time. The unusual Y shaped staircase may not be suitable for the less mobile, we found it awkward and the treads are narrow in depth. But I'd happily return and would recommend this cottage.

We had a fantastic stay at Balvaig Cottage. It’s a beautiful, cosy, well equipped house. The beds are very comfortable and the garden is amazing. Positioned in a stunning part of Scotland, with so much to do and see in the area. Ideal for walkers or cyclists & many attractions within driving distance. We stayed here for a week but would happily have stayed longer. Would definitely recommended a stay here.

If you are looking for a quiet holiday with lots of dog walking then this is the place to go. Excellent well kept cottage with everything you could ask for. Huge well kept garden leading onto numerous trails into the surrounding hills, and across the road an excellent cycle/walking trail leading to Callander and Lochearnhead. For such a small place Strathyre is spoilt for choice for places to eat and drink, with the White Stag Inn almost next door and two more hotels also providing a service. The Broche Café nestles in the woods and is popular with walkers, cyclists and passing motorists and a small store provides essential provisions. All in all we had an excellent week with many miles walked and numerous sunny nights sitting outside with a beer. Would go back again.

White stag inn- doesn’t supply midweek lunches- the broch cafe nearby supplied good range of soup and sandwiches which made up for it. The cottage and garden was lovely and would definitely book again.

The is a beautifully presented and equipped cottage, it is not from Loch Lubniag and a café. If was perfect for us with a Labrador, with walk out from the back of the garden in to the wider hills and walk network. The local pubs in Strathyre need to invest a bit but there are other places in within a short drive ( 10 mins ) such as Mohr 84 towards Lochernhead and a Pub called Laid in Kilmahog. The cottage was spacious, clean and had everything you will need to explore the local area. we will return if we are in the area in the future

My wife Jennifer and I had a great time at Belvaig cottage in Strathyre . Everything you could ask for is to hand . You’ll be amazed at the spacious surroundings both inside the house and out . Very many excellent walks in the area and also a lot of history attached to the surrounding area . There is also a shop located nit more than fifty yards away and appears to be well stocked . The cottage is a must if your looking for a short break . My hat goes off to the proprietors with regards to their thoughtfulness in every respect Sincerely yours Claude and Jennifer
