Storage for one car mountain bikes fishing rods walking equipment and golf clubs. Garage parking for one car and on road parking for one car. NB Low wall separates sitting area from river fast flowing in spate.\n\n From the outside this lovely mid terraced cottage looks tiny but open the door step in and be amazed The view from the sitting room and exterior balcony is addictive whatever the season. Patience may be rewarded with glimpses of sparling salmon and red squirrel and the occasional dart of a kingfisher. The cottage forms part of what was originally the Newton Stewart Brewery of William Thomas Solomon possibly dating back to the 1700’s and overlooks the lovely River Cree Brewery Pool and Mill Island. The Cree is a spate river like the other Galloway rivers and fishes best after a good fall of rain. It rises in Loch Moan and meanders through moorland and forest before entering the sea near Newton Stewart. The River Cree with its tributaries the Minnoch the Trool the Penkiln and the Palnure drains the south west flanks of the ’Range of the Awful Hand’ the labyrinthine range of mountains and lochs bogsburns and crags rising at its highest to The Merrick 2764ft above sea level 12 miles to the north and visible from Newton Stewart. Accommodation was like the tardis and the location superb with the river flowing by, the ancient oak woodlands nearby along with the Galloway hills and superb coastal walking.

    out of 10

Barley Cottage is a comfortable, well equipped cottage in an ideal location for exploring the Galloway Hills, the coast and many attractions. We enjoyed our stay very much. Our only reservation was that there is a certain amount of traffic noise because the cottage is on the main road through the town. This really only affects the bedroom with a window facing the road.
