Marske-by-the-Sea is a quaint little village with a number of dog friendly pubs offering a warm welcome, a home cooked meal and real ale, as well as a number of coffee shops and general stores. But the beach has to be the main attraction and it goes on for miles! The famous Cleveland Way snakes its way across the cliff tops and along the beach to Saltburn and beyond. It makes for a fun short walk or a stepping stone to something longer as The Cleveland Way runs south for miles and miles towards Whitby and Scarborough.
Neighbouring Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a great place to visit, with fantastic views, a wonderful sandy bay, a pier as well as ice cream shops, surf schools and some excellent restaurants and pubs. The North York Moors National Park is on your doorstep and the Danby Visitor Centre is worth a visit offering information about some of the fantastic places of interest dotted amongst the stunning North Yorkshire scenery. From Roseberry Topping to Sutton Bank you’ll find ancient abbeys to explore, waterfalls and rivers and some quaint villages where time has stood still such as Goathland and Grosmont where you can jump on board the Harry Potter express as it steams its way from Whitby to Pickering. Whitby is well worth a visit with the stunning Abbey stood proudly over the town, climb the 199 steps to the top for some fantastic views out to sea or enjoy strolling around the cobbled back streets. There are regular pleasure boat trips that head out in search of minke whales and dolphins, or take in one of the regular festivals and events such as the Goth Weekend and Regatta. Beach 200 yards. Shop 400 yards, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
