There is a sloping bank in the garden and grounds and a fenced river adjacent.\n\n This detached traditional former farmhouse accessed by a gravelled track is full of old world charm with stone flagged floors exposed beams wood panelled walls and studded oak doors but these generous sized rooms come with all the comfort and luxuries you need. Step from the inner hallway with its original stone flagged floor through the imposing studded entrance door and you are in one of the three reception rooms perfect to sit in front of the traditional fireplace with its wood burner before enjoying a hearty meal and good conversation around the dining table. Further down the hallway you will find the second sitting room with a wood burner and stone fireplace or if a little time away from the rest of your party is needed then the tranquillity of the study with its wood panelled walls awaits you. A splendid kitchen with handcrafted units and granite work surfaces provide excellent space and is well equipped to cater for your needs and with the central island unit there is plenty of room for helpers too.\nTake the lovely oak staircase to the first floor landing and five very comfortable bedrooms await you. The large master bedroom has its own en-suite dressing room and bathroom. The period charm is carried through the other rooms taking in old oak floors wood panelled wall and beamed ceilings. A stunning contemporary family bathroom can be found behind a magnificent oak studded door with a roll-top bath to soak away in after a full day’s adventures.\nOutside mature well stocked gardens are amongst the many areas for your enjoyment. A public right of way takes you through a wooden gate and soon you are on the banks of Black Beck. Further afield the beautiful Duddon Valley is well worth a visit and the 11th-century village of Broughton-in-Furness is just a short drive away. Some of Cumbria’s finest beaches can be found at Haverigg and Silecroft whilst Coniston Old Man might appeal to some. Others might prefer a ride on the Ravenglass Eskdale railway or a visit to Muncaster Castle makes a perfect day out for all the family. Beach 5 miles. Shop and restaurant 2¾ miles pub 1½ miles.     We had a fabulous family week in Beck Bank Farm. A beautiful and spacious home which comfortably housed 8 adults and two infants with space to spare! The house is very well equipped for all your comfort and self-catering needs, including a generous welcome pack of essentials. The beds are all very comfortable and the bedrooms spacious and well appointed for storage. The only small negative detail was there were no mattresses for the travel cots but we used pillows as the cot base is too solid to put infants in. The addition of the newly developed games room makes the house totally superb! It is an old 300 year old barn converted with its own bar, pool table, dining table and pews to accommodate 12-14 people, large screen TV, a board game cupboard and large comfortable sofas to spread out on. An exceptional space for adults and kids alike - well done guys! We spent a lot of time in there in front of a roaring log burner! Beautiful walks from the house across the stepping stones and up the hill to neolithic stone circle, walks in Haverigg around the lagoon and on the beach together with lots of fell walking for the so inclined. About 35 minutes from Coniston and an hour's drive to Windemere. The nearest shop (Tesco) is in Millom about 5 miles away so a car is pretty necessary though I think Tesco do deliver. Due to the Covid-19 situation we ate mostly in the accommodation but the Punch Bowl is within walking distance - serves pizza on a Thursday night and a more varied menu at the weekend. There were also a couple of pubs serving food in Broughton (approx 2 miles away) but when we were there they hadn't opened up yet. We would all highly recommend Beck Bank Farm, we were with our children and their families so the age group was 65-27 and we all enjoyed it equally - in fact the young 'uns want to book it for next year so it was a resounding success! Thank you John and Ruth for your hospitality, attention to detail and for sharing your lovely farmhouse! We will definitely be back!

    We stayed here the second week in September and it was a perfect place for a chilled out holiday. We were a group of 7, 6 humans (adults) and a dog, and we all loved it. The cottage is very spacious (having an en-suite, a bathroom and a shower room meant not having to schedule bathroom usage), well decorated and clean, the bedding and towels were super fresh. Although the house is old it is also very well equipped with all mod cons. Wifi is available and worked well in most parts of the house. There is a big range oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, a tumble dryer, a microwave, a bean to cup coffee machine (which will also take ground coffee), a couple of cafetières and plenty of crockery and cutlery and even dog bowls were provided. It's in a lovely secluded spot, with a bubbling beck which can be heard from the cottage and a great outdoor space with a barbecue and a chiminea so you can make the most of the milder nights even coming into autumn. We did 2 walks straight from the house which were super, we didn't meet a soul on either of these walks and the views were fabulous. We also drove out to Conniston, Ulverston and Ravenglass none of which were far away. Ruth was always on hand if we had any questions and had left us a welcome pack with bread, milk and biscuits and there was also kindling and firewood for the wood burners (there are two rooms with working wood burners). We had a Tesco delivery (they were the only ones who delivered there in Sept. 2019) ordered for an hour after we arrived and this turned up promptly and saved us carting too much stuff with us. At the risk of stating the obvious - the whole of our party would highly recommend this cottage! We didn't want to leave it and we will definitely be back :-)
