Wonderful views and miles of countryside and woodland, this makes a perfect place to stay for outdoor lovers. There are great woodland trails for long walks before returning back to these cosy cottages just 6 miles from the market town of Pickering. Here you’ll find plenty of bars, restaurants and shops as well as the popular market day held every Monday. Pickering is also home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway where you can catch the steam train to Whitby calling off at Goathland, the fictional village of Aidensfield in the popular TV programme ’Heartbeat’. The Flamingo Land theme park is close to Pickering and is a great day for the children with exhilarating rides and a fantastic zoo. There is a local pub within a mile from the cottages that serves good local produce and is famous for its home brewed beer which is brewed on site. Try out the brewery tour during your stay.
Dalby Forest is just a short drive away. Famous for its World Cup mountain bike trails, there’s over 8,000 acres of woodland to explore. Cyclists travel from all over the world to enjoy these tracks from absolute beginner courses to the most extreme. For the children there’s plenty of activity areas as well as the very popular ’Go Ape’, a high rope course through the trees of the forest. The coastal resort of Whitby is 20 miles away and it attracts many visitors all year round. Whitby Abbey was Bram Stoker’s inspiration for ’Dracula’. There are 199 steps to climb from the town to the abbey perched on the cliff top. The seaside resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Flamborough Head are all down the East Coast and the medieval city of York is an hour’s drive away, voted every year as one of the top ten cities to visit, it really is worth that trip. A beautiful walled city with an abundance of museums, theatres and shops including the famous Railway Museum and the Yorvik Viking Museum.
